Hi, my name is Vienna Aslanian, and I have been practicing as a licensed therapist since the beginning of 2017. I chose to become a therapist after practicing in the field of social work with children and families. Witnessing the trauma and the way that trauma impacted those individual lives caused me to develop an interest in and concern for individuals struggling with PTSD and childhood trauma. Seeing the intergenerational struggles and hearing people's personal stories on the matter made me interested in the field of therapy. I have always enjoyed listening to people's stories and making a genuine connection with someone. I believe in the healing power of therapy and the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I believe in the importance of active listening and supportive guidance. I believe in the importance of empathy and nonjudgment; I value making you feel cared about and understood. I hold myself to high expectations regarding reliability and consistency in order to provide the best support and care possible. I attend training regularly on the best and most effective practices/therapeutic modalities.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
For the intake process, I get to know you based on your individual needs and your individual goals. Based on the goals that we set together, we make a plan for the therapeutic process. I gather your history, including your trauma and your personal background. I have a few forms that explain what to expect and what we mutually agree upon when starting therapy.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I believe the most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic relationship; I have found that, when clients feel safe, understood, validated, and cared about, it makes them better able to meet their therapeutic goals. Active listening is an important aspect of therapy that I employ by encouraging clients to speak up, not speaking over them, and making them feel comfortable to share with me on a deeper level. I encourage clients to be themselves and I strive to do the same with them to help promote a sense of openness and comfortability.
