About Me. Hi, My name is Alissa Young and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker providing therapy services to Teens, College Students and Young Adults under the age of 35 within the State of California. A little bit about me, I was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, California. Clients would describe me as a ‘safe space’, where clients can feel validated and supported when sharing their challenges and seeking mental health support. Clients also describe me as motivating, comfortable, and strengths-based focused. I truly value hosting a therapeutic space where both parties are engaging in a confidential safe space, as their authentic selves - judgment free zone. My Ideal Client. If you searched terms such as “Therapist for College Students”, “Black Female Therapists”, “BIPOC Therapist”, and “EMDR Therapist in California”, you’re probably in the right place! My ideal clients are students, parents, and professionals that feel a sense of connectedness when they read more about me. My ideal client is the person I see in the mirror - which is pretty amazing and full of resiliency and strength, ready for open and honest conversations - ready for CHANGE! College Students and Young Adults. I enjoy supporting College Students and Young Adults in the therapeutic space. As a current University Therapist in the State of California, I also enjoy working with First Generation College Students, BIPOC students, Black/African American-Identified students, LGBTQIAA+ students, and other often marginalized College Students. Topics of interest include Adjustment to College, Management of Stress, Anxiety, and Anger, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (Trauma Processing), Racism, Management of Depression, Self-Esteem Development, Sex and Gender exploration, Personal Identity exploration, and more.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I pride myself on providing a safe, therapeutic space for my clients, using evidence-based practices to support client therapeutic goal progress. Some of these evidence-based practices include strengths-based focused interventions, EMDR certification, problem-solving therapy techniques, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-informed approaches, client-empowerment approaches, client-therapist collaboration techniques, culturally sensitive and tailored interventions, motivation-based approaches, prevention planning approaches, prioritized safety techniques, and mindfulness / holistic approaches to treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Passion Meets Purpose. I decided to become a therapist because of my own personal experiences. After years of overcoming my own personal challenges, I believe the obstacles I faced led to my passion of being a therapist helping others - and this role brings me joy. While pursuing an undergraduate degree at Loyola University New Orleans, and a graduate school degree at the University of Southern California, I longed to find a mental health provider that I could relate to - failed to see social and cultural representation of therapists that looked like me. Years later, after accomplishing my desired degrees, I am seeking to change this culture.
