I've worked at premiere facilities such as Hoag Hospital and the Betty Ford Clinic. Previous to becoming a therapist, I worked as a substance abuse counselor. I'm duly licensed as an MFT and substance abuse professional. Working with the underlying mental health issues which have driven addictive tendencies as a coping mechanism have been a specialty. I have experience working with veterans and their families, and I'm from a law enforcement family. I'm also part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I have been practicing polyvagal theory and it's interventions to address anxiety and depression, as well as bipolar disorder. It's been a critical touchstone in helping clients to conceptualize a healthier way of functioning. I'll help you to understand the window of tolerance and to start paying attention to your dysregulated states.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session I want to get to know you and find our connection to one another. The single greatest indicator of successful treatment is the therapeutic relationship. It's important that trust is developed so that you feel you can be completely vulnerable and let one person in to the workings of your world view. I've been privileged to do that with hundreds of clients over 11 years. I know it's not easy taking these first steps putting your ego in check and admitting you don't have all the answers. But that takes incredible strength and courage. Let's continue to build on that and help you to realize the new you that is in there, but also probably creates some anxiety with the unknown. You need a guide in that, and I'm here for you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I try and find a personal connection to all my clients so that there is a secure basis to fall back on. It helps each of us to humanize the other and build mutual respect. I try and keep a strong self-care program so that I can help instill this in others.

My treatment methods

Polyvagal Therapy

I've used polyvagal theory to help client realize the connection between their anxiety and depression. I've also worked to expand the window of tolerance and build tools to cope with life on life's terms. I also believe it's important to find what works for the client, and while this is my prefered modality, it is by no means my only approach.
