Hello, I'm Kellie Walker, a licensed professional counselor in Pennsylvania who works with a variety of mental health issues/concerns. I received my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Chatham University and have experience working in community mental healthcare and private practice. I am passionate about serving others and have a strong sense of empathy. I want those who work with me to find balance and peace of mind in their daily lives so that life's struggles become far more manageable.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session, I will discuss treatment goals and spend some time discussing therapy expectations and past experiences with mental healthcare. Building rapport and creating a safe atmosphere is my #1 goal from the start, and I will collaborate with the client to align the clients need with the proposed course of treatment.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My clients describe me as authentic, down-to-earth, and "real." I am a cheerleader and coach when it comes to empowering those who work with me. While I show care, empathy, and compassion (along with a fun sense of humor), I do push my clients to take actionable steps to change their lives. I am willing to be direct when it comes to saying what the client needs to hear and I do not shy away from uncomfortable topics.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT skills can be applied to daily life for everyone, including those who do not have mental illness. Learning to communicate well, regulate emotions, and having the ability to tolerate distressing situations can be a useful tool in a variety of situations.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Learning to identify negative thinking patterns and challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviors can allow people to change their lives. CBT can teach coping skills that allow for better problem-solving understanding motivations and behaviors.

Trauma Informed Care

Understanding trauma and the impact it has made on a person's life can allow them to identify and change negative, learned behaviors. By emphasizing feeling safe, building empowerment, and the therapeutic alliance, healing can occur without re-traumatization.

Motivational Interviewing

Many people are not sure how to change behaviors and have difficulty assessing their readiness to do so. By exploring the readiness for change, the client can create clearer goals and resolve feelings of ambivalence.
