LMFT, 18 years of experience
New to Grow
My name is Dr. Nkem Anene, and I am a licensed psychotherapist in California with over 18 years of experience. I have had the privilege of serving clients across the lifespan, from adolescents navigating identity and transitions to older adults seeking balance, healing, and meaning in their later years. My goal is to empower each client to recognize their strengths, overcome challenges, and create lasting change. I believe therapy should be a supportive and transformative experience that helps you move toward greater peace, clarity, and fulfillment in life.
In our first session, my focus is on creating a safe and comfortable space where you can share your story at your own pace. We will explore what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any challenges you’re currently facing. Together, we’ll begin to outline a plan that feels tailored to your needs, giving you a sense of clarity and direction as we move forward in your journey
My greatest strengths as a therapist are my ability to combine deep clinical expertise with genuine compassion and cultural sensitivity. I draw from a wide range of evidence-based methods—such as CBT, solution-focused, and eclectic approaches—while tailoring each session to the unique needs of my clients. Clients often share that I help them feel truly seen, supported, and empowered to make meaningful and lasting changes in their lives.
My ideal clients are individuals who are motivated to grow and ready to make meaningful changes in their lives. I work well with those facing challenges such as anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief, relationship struggles, or family dynamics. Whether you are an adolescent navigating identity and independence, or an older adult seeking peace, healing, or renewed purpose, I provide a safe and supportive space to explore your concerns and move toward your goals.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, understand how these influence emotions and behaviors, and develop practical strategies to shift them. Together, we work on building healthier ways of thinking and coping that support long-term growth and well-being
My approach to Christian Counseling integrates evidence-based therapeutic practices with faith-based principles, allowing clients to explore emotional, relational, and spiritual concerns through both psychological insight and biblical guidance. I support clients in drawing strength from their faith while addressing challenges in a way that aligns with their values, beliefs, and personal growth goals.
My treatment method can be eclectic, meaning I draw from a variety of evidence-based approaches—including CBT, psychodynamic, solution-focused, and mindfulness techniques—to tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs. This flexible style allows me to integrate different strategies and interventions to best support growth, healing, and lasting change.
My treatment method incorporates Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), a goal-oriented approach that emphasizes clients’ strengths and resources. I work collaboratively to identify practical solutions, highlight what is already working, and help clients take small, actionable steps toward meaningful change.
