I am a strength-based therapist always seeking to balance perceived deficits with positive attributes. I encourage those I work with to take risks and to learn and practice acceptance.
I enjoy working with individuals of all ages, ethnicities and demographics. I have worked in a variety of environments and have experience in community mental health, children and adult services, substance abuse disorders and those effected by others substance use.
I completed training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I apply skills learned to assist individuals in identifying thought distortions and patterns that create negative, self-defeating and anxiety producing thoughts. Skills are taught to address and counter unproductive thoughts and behaviors.
I have training in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I incorporate breathing, body scans and grounding techniques into treatment with the goal of learning to experience the present more fully versus ruminating about the past or worrying about the future. I find this modality useful in treating depression, anxiety and trauma.
I have been trained in Motivational Interviewing and have used MI techniques when working with substance use disorders.
