Hi! I'm Isela, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 7 years of experience helping individuals and families. I have worked primarily with children and families in school and hospital settings. Some of my specialities include working with individuals that are experiencing anxiety, depression, have experienced trauma or difficulties that arise when dealing with chronic illness. My therapeutic style includes taking a strengths-based approach where I empower you to collaborate and create goals that will help you succeed. I provide a safe, compassionate environment where you can feel supported and heard.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
In our first session, you can expect a brief introduction and expectation of what sessions would look like. Then, I will get to learn more about you and what situation/challenges you are facing, what you are hoping to achieve and start creating goals.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am a caring provider who values the therapeutic connection and creates a space for every individual to feel heard, seen and validated.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I enjoy working with individuals that are motivated to make changes, open to learning new skills and value the therapeutic process.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I have been using ACT in my practice for the past several years and it has been shown to be beneficial for many when managing difficult situations they find themselves in. This therapeutic approach helps embrace difficult thoughts and feelings by practicing skills such as mindfulness, defusion thought techniques and aligning with one's values.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is an approach that utilizes different techniques to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns by looking at the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. By being able to identify, manage and challenge unhelpful thoughts, one can move towards a more effective way of thinking.

This was my first time trying out therapy and I am feeling much better about future sessions. I think it may be possible for me to move forward and make progress in my mental health/life. I felt listened to and not judged and it was overall a pleasant experience.
