Hello, I'm Diane Cammarata, an Adult Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who has been providing Medication Management to help individuals manage and conquer psychiatric symptoms for over 23 years. I have a passion for what I do, which brings compassion in what I do! I was practicing in the DFW, TX area for 15 years before relocating back to the Boston area in December of 2018. I received a Bachelor’s in Nursing at UMASS Boston in 1993 and a Master’s Degree at UMASS Lowell in 2002. Most recently I worked in a Community Behavioral Health clinic from Feb. 2019 to August 2023. My background includes medication management of patients not only with psychiatric disorders, but also those with chronic pain issues, migraine and traumatic brain injury. I no longer provide pain management. Also, I do not treat Substance Use Disorder and expect that you will have a Specialist on board in that area. I have been a Speaker for pharmaceutical companies and offer Psychiatric Consultant Services for Attorneys, Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living Facitilites, and Families needing assistance in understanding the care and treatment of their loved ones with mental health issues and sorting out their needs. I enjoy spending time out in the Nature, with family and friends, cooking and eating great food, and being by the ocean.
In our first session we will go over screening tools that were completed before the visit, and I may ask you to complete other screeners during the visit as well. Then I will be asking A LOT of questions in an effort to get to know a person better and access their needs. I often instruct people to be as honest as possible. In this way I can be sure I am taking the right path in their treatment. If some questions are too uncomfortable to answer, a brief reply will suffice. My goal is to connect on a level that will facilitate healing and have a person look forward to their next visit with me.
Well, technically I am NOT a Therapist, though I often lend Support, Motivation and Encouragement during the visit which are considered forms of Therapeutic tools. And if a person doesn't have one I may refer them to a Therapist for Psychotherapy that I do not provide. As a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner I mostly do Medication Management. I usually offer Support and Motivation. I try to encourage a dialog and give Patient-Focused care. If asked, I may offer counsel for grief and loss during our sessions. I hope to provide care that helps them feel more hopeful and be able to get through their tough times easier. I will listen. Together we will identify your needs and I will offer the appropriate medication to better manage your symptoms. You will learn the rationale and indications for your medications so that you understand how medications may help you. You will be the driver and I will supply the fuel!
I love helping people get through tough times, which happen to just about everyone. But sometimes people feel stuck and isolated in their own world, regardless of having support of family and friends, and connecting with them often helps them feel less alone. With all of life's challenges, symptoms that lead to feeling depressed and anxious are not uncommon. I enjoy working with people who are motivated to feeling better and willing to commit to the treatment I can provide to help them manage their symptoms and move forward towards functioning more optimally in their lives. PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, I DO NOT handle Short- or Long-Term Disability Claims. I will, however, support you for FMLA when time off is needed INTERMITTENTLY for Flare-Ups of symptoms that may impact your ability to go to work on a given day.
I mainly provide Medication Management for individuals with conditions that require medication. Psychoeducation is part of teaching individuals how to manage their symptoms with and without medication, and how medications may help them. I have primarily treated patients with Depression, Anxiety, Mood Disorder, PTSD and ADHD.
