Hello. I am Eldon Solomon, an Indiana Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMCH) with over 31 years of professional work experience. I've worked hard to develop trusted and reliable clinical skills. These skills have helped hundreds of individuals and families achieve different or reliable outcomes in coping or decision-making responses to military service, to career challenges, to family conflicts, to unhealthy patterns from trauma and abuse, parenting issues, and to difficult life challenges or life style changes. I believe that you are the expert of your story and have many strengths that will assist in overcoming things that challenge you. Your goals or desired outcomes matter to me and I promise to listen. I'll want to hear about what you value the most and about the biggest challenges you are facing in reaching goals. I promise to give you the full attention of my 31 years of clinical experience and accomplishments. Because I want to hear your story, I want to know what you think has been working or is not. We'll also explore together choices in patterns and decision-making that you love, that work, and that you want to keep. Thank you for trusting yourself enough to walk this journey, and thank you for trusting my experience and ability to walk it with you. Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I promise to give you the full attention of my clinical and coaching skills and the 31 years of experience. I want to know what you value about yourself, your challenges, and your ability to overcome the obstacles that are in front of you. If you do not know where to start, don't worry. I will take care of you by asking questions. I will listen and allow you to tell your story. I promise that we'll end the first session that will have a greater sense of hope and a basic plan of action with clear expectations understood. Sessions typically last between 40-50 minutes.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I listen and incorporate what you tell me and what I see into my clinical and coaching decisions. My clinical room (virtual) is a safe place for you to be vulnerable and to share. You will be challenged, but you'll also feel validated. You will be understood, but I will push you to broaden your story to include the outcomes you are looking for. You will feel empowered to believe in yourself, and you will hear me tell you often that I believe in you. I have spent over three decades practicing and perfecting my clinical and coaching skills. I have worked in the corporate world as a clinician, manager and as an Executive Officer. I have supported military personnel and commanders in establishing best practices in addressing combat related issues of PTSD. I have supported and programed services for Veterans as they struggle to integrate back into civilian life. I have helped families, individuals and relationships health from wounds and hurts. I have walked with the mentally ill through their journeys of recovery and creating sustaining life. I value all the lessons learned from these experiences and accomplishments. At this stage of my career, what I value the most is being able to share expertise from those years with my current clients.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I list Solution Focused Brief Therapy here because this treatment method best describes my approach and philosophy in how I engage clients. I focus on solutions and the transformational responses that are chosen to managing dynamics, crisis, relationships and/or a medical and mental illness. I use this method a lot because of it's focus on solutions, specifically those solutions that produce reliable and responsive outcomes. I've witness the benefits of clients' being in control of the speed and pace of their treatment. "Solutions" are not complicated, and "Brief" is the bench mark I work toward. You can always come back and reengage treatment if life start spinning out of control again. Throughout the process of coping or creating change, I want you to experience your resilience and your inter-strength. You are the hero here, not method or techniques used.

Couples Counseling

After 37 years of marriage and 31 years as a Marriage and Family Therapist, my approach to couples counseling has changed more than any other treatment modalities I use. Relationships are messy at their best. Relationships produce a lot of emotions that will be experienced as either transactional (dictating our decision-making) or transformational (informing our decision-making). Developing skills that allow individuals to listen in order to understand is a skill that I've learned to reinforce in my work with couples. It is natural or common for us to listen for the purpose of provoking change, common consent, or agreement. This transactional approach in relationship management has proven to be historically ineffective. There are a lot of resources available to couples to help them understand the dynamics of a relationship. I will likely director you to those resources, but I see my role here as helping you engage those practices in a way that enhances your relationship experience. When relationships are experienced as a transaction of roles or duties, sustainability over time is difficult. It is when we learn to use those resources in a way that transforms, informs and enhances our dance within these relationships that Couples Counseling has its greatest rewards.

Trauma Informed Care

Everything I do, my approach to treatment, the use of treatment modalities, and the language used is informed by methods outlined by Trauma Informed Care. The most prominent issue I have treated as a Mental Health Counselor has been adult victims of childhood trauma.
