Hi...I am a Marriage and Family Therapist working out of San Diego with 16 years experience in severe mental health, private practice, and working with Military dealing with everything from Couples Counseling, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction/Recovery, OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), Trauma, Family Therapy, and working with Adolescents. I'm a former College football player with a 13 year old son who is my everything. I love football and sports and enjoy exercise and being outdoors as my hobbies. More importantly, I'm a Christian believer who does not like religion, if that makes any sense. I believe that love conquers a lot, and my therapy style is a very laid back and relaxed approach with absolutely no judgment, but with great love and understanding.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session I will try to get an idea of what motivated you to seek therapy. It will be very relaxed and my goal is to provide a safe space for you to feel comfortable in talking about what brought you to therapy. We'll discuss goals towards the end of the session, and I'll make sure that you're zipped back up and not emotionally raw leaving the session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

One of my greatest strengths as a provider is the energy and space that I provide for Clients to open up and talk. I'm down to earth and laid back, and if I could come to work in a tank top, board shorts, and slippers, that would be my attire. I also have a lot of experience working with anxiety, Couples, addiction/recovery, and depression. With working with the severe mental health community here in San Diego for 8 years, I've learned and developed many effective modalities and interventions to help Client's work though and get on the right side of their mental health. My faith and spiritual beliefs are my greatest gifts I bring as a provider. Being able to step back and see the bigger picture, or the forest through the trees if you will, allows me to approach mental health and therapy from a different perspective that has been very useful and valuable for Clients.

My treatment methods

Attachment-based

I believe attachment styles that are created during childhood and adolescence are what we bring into adult relationships, usually unknowingly. The attachment style we have with our adult partner is the same that was created during childhood, and depending on what style it is, can create many problems and issues within a relationship. Helping clients understand what attachment style they have and how it is negatively impacting their relationship, allows it to brought into the conscious mind, and can then be addressed and changed for the positive.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a great intervention to use with depression and anxiety. Understanding how our automatic thoughts create and generate our feelings about an event, allows the client to figure out what kind of negative thought patterns they employ. The negative thought patterns are like "lenses" we perceive the world through, and they need to be changed from negative to positive thought patterns, so we can see and receive what happens externally through "clear lenses".

Christian Counseling

For Clients that are Christian in faith and belief, I am also a Christian believer and can provide therapy through the Christian faith, biblical truths, and the love of Christ.

Couples Counseling

I have extensive and vast experience working with couples, and depending upon the issues in the relationship, can employ Gottman methods, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and some Family Systems methods to help the couple work through the issues they are having,

Humanistic

I believe it is my job as the therapist to meet Clients where they are at and become a guide who walks with them and helps them through the journey of discovery and healing that occurs with therapy. I can push or pull if needed, but I more like to walk with the Client, helping them come to healing and realizations with my assistance.
