LICSW, 21 years of experience
Hello, my name is Yoland Ugorji. As a dedicated Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience, I am extremely passionate about helping individuals search within themselves and recognize that they already have what it takes to achieve growth and healing. I will provide support in a safe space that will allow you to comfortably explore your thoughts and feelings. I am trained in various evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), which will be utilized to provide you with the tools and strategies to begin the healing process. With a strength-based perspective, and offering warmth and nonjudgemental insights, I offer support of improving self-care to individuals with a history of trauma and anxiety. Together we will explore the best treatment option that would enable you to make life’s challenges manageable. I welcome the opportunity to be on this journey with you of finding relief and healing.
Feeling comfortable with a therapist and being able to build trust and effective communication is important in the therapeutic alliance. You will have the opportunity to decide if I am the therapist to support you on your healing journey. Together we will explore the best treatment option that would enable you to make life’s challenges manageable. You will leave the session with clarity on what you feel can be done in the moment, as well as next steps and a plan for future sessions. Assessment will be ongoing, therefore there is always room for assessing progress of our work together.
I truly believe that I am a support in your healing journey and you are the lead. I will guide you in discovering that you already have within you, what it takes to achieve the growth and healing you deserve. Managing life's stressors is attainable and believing that is your first step to healing. Strengths I will offer includes recognizing my own self-awareness so not to interfere with the therapeutic process, creating a safe and trusting environment, cultural competency and recognizing diverse backgrounds and experiences of clients, being an active listener, having a commitment to your healing journey, being flexibility, and especially being professional and showing empathy.
You have taken the first step in your healing process. You may be experiencing a number of emotions that range from fear, concerns about being vulnerable and reopening wounds, to excitement about empowerment that comes when you begin to see improvement in the quality of your life. I will provide support in a safe space that will allow you to comfortably explore your thoughts and feelings related to events experienced that may have led to anxiety, self-doubt and depression. The focus will be on helping you to discover that through prioritizing self-care, you can develop the skills necessary to better communicate and set limits in relationships, and define what you will and will not tolerate. Therapy will allow you the safe space to reduce stressors, and decide and create the desired life of which you are worthy. When you are ready I am here to support you through this journey.
I have used Cognitive Behavior Therapy since the start of my practice. As the primary focus is to change negative thought patterns. I find that it gives clients the ability to be fully present in the work required to see changes, thus fostering the healing process.
I have seventeen years of providing direct care to individuals who have experienced traumatic experiences, and guiding them through their healing process with the use of TraumaFocused Evidenced Based Treatment.
Trained in Child Centered Play Therapy and has implemented this Evidenced Based Treatment for 17 years.
