Hi and welcome to therapy. My name is Kathy, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker serving clients in the state of Georgia. My career as a therapist has spanned twenty-one years working in a number of diverse organizations. I wanted to enter the helping profession and was attracted to therapy because it appeared to offer a way to incorporate creativity into the art of serving others. My work over the last few years has been in outpatient programs working with adults suffering from severe and chronic mental illness. It is in this capacity that I became passionate about working with adults suffering from symptoms of anxiety and depression.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Our first session will be spent getting to know each other and creating a treatment plan to address the life challenges you want to overcome and manage. I will be asking a lot of questions regarding the challenge you present to achieve a better understanding about the important specifics regarding your symptoms, history, and the emotional and cognitive changes you desire to make. My goal is that you experience kindness, a welcoming demeanor, and a space with no judgement.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My clients have described me as "down to earth" and challenging yet safe. I best serve clients that appreciate a direct therapist. My clients also appreciate the insight that I provide. I will stand with you as you face your truths. I will walk with you on your path to greater certainty and increased motivation. I will help you better manage worries, anxiety, manage intrusive thoughts, and create calm in the storms of life. I believe in and am experienced in the techniques of CBT and mindfulness-based techniques. I believe you are ultimately the expert, a person of strength, and a unique individual capable of a better life as you would define it.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have always used CBT in my practice. Clients find it beneficial in identifying and challenging triggers and unproductive thoughts. We'll explore these thoughts and how they affect your emotions and behaviors replacing them with constructive thoughts and behaviors.

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Mindfulness-Based therapy is often used in conjunction with CBT to assist clients in achieving a state of calmness. I encourage my clients to practice mindfulness techniques daily. This is the soothing moments in therapy when we will use techniques such as meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, and breathing exercises. Techniques will help you to live with present moment awareness navigating from rumination regarding past events and away from the stress caused by worrying about the future.
