I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia with experience in community mental health. I've spent the vast majority of my career trying to be an advocate for the most vulnerable in our society. Seeking treatment can be scary and intimidating, but I think everyone is capable of some growth and learning. I have seen people at their absolute lowest point rise out of despair and hopelessness. It's possible.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is about building trust - therapy simply doesn't work if there is no trust or connection. I want the client to feel comfortable enough to share their story so that we can begin to address their challenges.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I try to be as down to earth as possible. I feel that the basis for change in therapy is feeling supported and not judged.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

I start by exploring a client's adverse childhood experiences, traumatic events, or other chronic stressors that might be impacting daily life or contributing to negative emotional states. Healing means normalizing the response to those events and stressors and moving at the client' space to become whole.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Simply put, the basis for all therapy should be an environment in which the client feels supported, understood, and not judged.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT is a practical tool to combat negative thinking, intrusive thoughts, and incorrect inferences. After building the therapeutic relationship, we can begin challenging irrational thinking and behaviors (with some motivational interviewing) and replacing those thoughts and behaviors with more constructive ones.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I believe in uplifting marginalized individuals and giving voices to the often voiceless. There is so much power in just being able to tell one's story or having one's experience validated.
