I am a licensed mental health counselor with over 20 years of experience working with diverse individuals in the community, private practice, and residential substance abuse treatment. Never in a million years did I ever think providing counseling to individuals, couples, families, and groups, would be the career to captivate my heart….but it is! My specialties are working with clients who may be suffering from traumatic incidents, substance abuse, various forms of anxiety (PTSD, stress disorders), depression, self-esteem, and gender identity. Making the decision to receive any form of mental health counseling can be taxing, however, the results are often positive and rewarding. Learning to face your fears in a healthy and appropriate manner is a sign of growth and maturity. It is not an easy task. You will cry, laugh, and maybe feel a little uncomfortable at times. This is just the therapeutic process working to make you emotionally stronger. *Please note that my preference for treatment sessions are individual and group therapy. However, I do provide a limited number of couples or family therapy sessions for special circumstances.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Prior to your first session, you will be sent forms to complete and a link for your therapy session. During your first session, you will be asked questions to gain information about your background and reasons for reaching out for services with us. This is called an intake or biopsychosocial evaluation. You will also develop a list of goals so that you can begin planning your treatment. This is called a treatment plan. At the end of your session, you might be given "homework" to complete before your next session. Homework tools are useful and come in a variety ways such as videos, books, journaling, breathing exercises, worksheets, and so forth.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
My main strength is empathy. When I am in a session with clients, feeling what you feel is very important. It helps me to be nonjudgmental. Because of this, delivering a service that is heartfelt is most important to me. I want my clients to feel, heard, understood, and most of all safe to tell me their innermost thoughts and feelings. Why? Because when you invite me into your mind, I want you to be comfortable with me being there.
