I graduated with a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University (2014) and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida. I have had the opportunity to work with families, individuals and couples (English and Spanish speaking) of diverse backgrounds in helping them through concerns such as grief, parent-child conflict, intergenerational conflict, trauma, depression, anxiety and so on. My therapeutic and advocacy experience has reinforced in me the value of helping others gain insight and implement strategies to move towards positive change.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first first session, I will be able to obtain a little of your history and the challenges impacting your mental health. You'll get to learn a little about me and the strategies I use in providing you support. We will also identify therapy goals you'd like to accomplish in our work together. My job as a therapist is to care for emotional, behavioral and physical issues being impacted by your mental health. Together, we will explore factors impacting your life and identify strategies that you can use immediately to help get you to the changes you desire.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My strength as a therapist lies in my ability to create a safe, empathetic, and non-judgement environment for anyone I work with, no matter the background or identity. Coupled with the deep understanding of various psychological theories and evidence-based practices, enabling me to tailor interventions to meet the unique needs of each person. I’m dedicated to ongoing education and self-reflection to ensure my clients remain knowledgeable and effective in their home practice.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize CBT to help clients identify and challenge distorted thinking patterns and beliefs and guide them to understand the impact of these thoughts on their emotions and behaviors. I’ve used CBT over the years that I’ve been in practice with teens, adults, and couples.

Attachment-based

In using Attachment-Based Therapy, we focus on strengthening the emotional bond between clients and their significant others. Often working with individuals, couples, or families to address attachment-related issues. This therapy begins by exploring early attachment experiences and how these have influenced current relational patterns and emotional functioning.

EMDR

In Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, I help individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences by using bilateral stimulation, such as guided eye movements, taps, or auditory tones. I first start by taking a detailed history and identifying specific traumatic memories or distressing experiences to target. During the EMDR sessions, the client focuses on these memories while simultaneously following various forms of bilateral stimulation. This process facilitates the reprocessing of traumatic memories, allowing clients to integrate these memories in a way that reduces their emotional charge and lessens their impact on current functioning. By repeatedly engaging in this structured protocol, clients can achieve adaptive resolution, leading to decreased symptoms of trauma and improved overall mental health.

Gottman method

In the Gottman Method of couples therapy, I employ research-based techniques to help couples enhance their relationship by improving communication, increasing intimacy, and resolving conflicts constructively. We first start with a thorough assessment of the couple's relationship, identifying strengths and areas of concern through interviews and questionnaires. Using the Sound Relationship House Theory as a framework, the couple is guided in building a strong foundation of trust and commitment. Interventions include exercises to deepen emotional connection, manage conflicts through constructive dialogue, and foster shared meaning and goals. By teaching couples’ practical skills for navigating disagreements and enhancing their emotional bond, the Gottman Method aims to create lasting, positive changes in the relationship, leading to greater stability and satisfaction.

Grief Therapy

In grief therapy, I work closely with individuals coping with the loss of a loved one by providing a safe space to express and process their emotions. Clients can gain a better understanding of the multifaceted nature of grief, including its emotional, physical, and psychological impacts. Using techniques such as talk therapy, narrative therapy, and mindfulness, clients are encouraged to explore their feelings of sadness, anger, guilt, and confusion. Additionally, clients might incorporate rituals or memory-making activities to honor the deceased and facilitate healing.
