*Note that at this time, because there are very few openly autistic clients on the Grow platform, I am only working with clients who are autistic or are wondering if they are autistic. I work from a neuroaffirming perspective, and from the assumption that autism is a difference in neurotype and not something to "fix". I am an autistic, disabled, queer licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I live in rural Northern California but am available to work virtually with any client living in California. I discovered that am autistic (and that I have ADHD) as an adult. Viewing my life through that lens has had a big impact on how I see myself and the way I relate to the world. I have a special interest in working with autistic and ADHD clients, as well as with people who are exploring those identities. I also have a lot of experience helping people navigate life with the depression and/or anxiety that so often come with being autistic and/or having adhd. Sometimes having a therapist who can help you problem solve and think outside the box can make a big difference. You can learn more about me at me website: www.erinmendozatherapy.com
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
I am primarily client centered, collaborative, and strength-based. I draw on other modalities such as attachment theory, solution focused, and DBT, depending on what you as a client need to work towards your treatment goals.
Many clients seek out a therapist who shares one or more identities with them. Obviously, no two people's experiences are exactly the same, but there can be some relief knowing that you don't have to explain every little thing to your therapist. My lived experience with being autistic and queer, and having ADHD as well as living with an invisible disability often help me connect more quickly with clients who share those identities.
Clients who are autistic and/or adhd, or who are exploring those diagnoses/identities. Clients who are dealing with long term depression and/or anxiety. Clients dealing with autistic burnout or trying to navigate autism and chronic illness.

Erin has the ability to explain complex terminology with ease. By understanding what i am reading, i can continue working on my depression and anger.

I think Erin was helpful because she was able to give me recommendations for other therapists. She was also very patient. She would allow my dad to sometimes join in the sessions. She also had good availability. However, the one thing I didn't like was the style of therapy. I felt also that her style of therapy and her as a person, was not the right fit for me. However I do think that she was a good therapist for me in the time being, but I wouldn't want her as my long term therapist.

I liked my therapist's therapy style because she was very good at carrying the conversation. I also liked that she was asking me questions and engaging with me. I feel that the questions were very important. Overall I think that my first meeting went really well. I am definitely looking forward to the next upcoming sessions.
