When I was a teen, one of the things I wished for was someone to talk to- someone who wouldn’t judge me, who would be a sounding board and would help me make decisions that would impact my future. When I learned that there was a profession that would provide exactly that, and more, I strove to be for others what I never had myself. I became a mental health counselor or therapist- whatever you prefer to call me- but a person who believes that there are times in all our lives when we could use someone to help us work through whatever issues/concerns/crisis/problems we are facing to help us to work through them and come out in a more positive place on the other side. I have worked as a psychotherapist for over 10 years, assisting clients with many issues including (but not limited to) self-esteem, career problems, anxiety, depression, communication skills, decision-making, LGBQ-related concerns, boundaries, burn-out, parenting, spiritual and existential questions and relationships. Every person is unique which is why my style is to get to know a person’s specific needs and together find ways to address each client’s specific goals utilizing a variety of techniques and theories catered to each individual. If you are ready to do the work, I’m ready to do whatever I can to get you to a more positive place. I would feel privileged to work with you and support you at this time in your life. You are worthy!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

A session with me can be varied, but generally, I try to set goals and assess them every few sessions to show progress or alter our goals as needed. I am also flexible in addressing current concerns as they arise. “Progress” can mean different things at various times. Ultimately, the goal is to create a forward momentum that will translate into everyday life. Often there are things that we can decide on (aka homework) that will help us to direct our sessions to what is most helpful. Together we will find what works best for you to reach the goals you want to achieve.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

Just like each person is unique, each treatment plan is personalized. My primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because I believe our thoughts, emotions and behaviors impact each other. I also use Interpersonal Therapy because we are, generally, social creatures and improving our relationships can help improve our wellbeing. Most (if not all) of us have a creative side that can be essential to our growth, so when appropriate, art, music, writing, photography, crafting, role-playing, narration, drama and more can be incorporated into healing, defining our life experience and increasing resiliency.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have been privileged to work with clients from 4 years old to 78 years old. Each period in our lives comes with unique challenges and rewards. My biggest strength is the ability to listen without judgment, learn about who a person truly is and assist them in transitioning into who they want to become.
