About me

I am a Licensed Certified Social Worker–Clinical (LCSW-C) practicing in Washington County, Maryland. Washington County has always been “home” to me—the place and the people who shaped my life. It is a privilege to now serve the individuals and families of this community, as well as neighboring areas. I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Shepherd University and my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from Salisbury University. Over the past 20+ years, I have had the honor of working with children, individuals, and families across a variety of systems within the field of social work. I am currently accepting clients age 16 and older through my home-based private practice. I also offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions through the GROW Therapy platform, which provides the option to utilize insurance coverage. I have a special affection for both the young and the young at heart, as I believe we are all navigating different points along that continuum. I am passionate about supporting the wellness of the mind, body, emotion, and spirit—believing that true well-being comes from nurturing all aspects of ourselves, wherever we may find ourselves on life’s journey. While every individual and their experiences are unique, I believe that the human experience—with its joys, struggles, and suffering—is something we all share. It is from this shared humanity that I strive to create a space of understanding, connection, and compassion—one that fosters acceptance, growth, and meaningful change.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Because I believe strongly in honoring each person’s autonomy, I strive to create a supportive, goal-focused, and realistic experience for every client I work with. I see therapy as both a science and an art — a shared process that involves building the trust needed to explore vulnerability, growth, and change together. The relationship between client and therapist is, in fact, the most important factor in creating meaningful progress and satisfaction in therapy. With that in mind, the first few sessions are a time for us to get to know one another, make sure you feel comfortable, and clarify what you’d like to work toward. Together, we’ll define your goals in ways that feel realistic and achievable, and create a structure that supports you in moving toward the changes you want to see.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What Stands Out About My Approach: Broad Experience Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in a wide range of settings and systems, working with individuals, families, and children. I have experience in Family Preservation, Foster Care, School-Based Services, Medical Care Management, Adult Services, Geriatric Activities and Rehabilitation, Early Intervention/ Early Childhood Development, and Private Clinical Practice. Each of these experiences has shaped my understanding of people, resilience, and the many paths toward healing and growth. Perspective I don’t consider myself an “expert” — in fact, I believe that the more I learn, the more I recognize how much there is still to learn. I don’t “fix” people, and I don’t believe they need fixing. Instead, I walk alongside my clients, helping them uncover insight, build skills, and move toward meaningful change. My work with people from all walks of life has taught me that every emotion and experience — whether we label it positive or negative — carries something valuable to teach us, if we are open to learning from it. For me, the process of discovery and growth we share in therapy is what makes this work so deeply rewarding. Calling From a young age, compassion, empathy, and a desire to help others have been central parts of who I am. As I grew in life and experience, I found peace and purpose in what I understand as the calling of “The Wounded Healer” — the belief that our deepest wounds can become the very source of healing and strength we offer to others and to the world around us.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

The Client–Therapist Relationship I deeply believe in the importance of the client–therapist relationship. It’s essential that this relationship feels like a good fit — defined by the client’s comfort, trust, and growing openness over time. Research consistently shows that the strength of this relationship is the most significant factor in creating positive outcomes in therapy. I encourage clients to be open about how they feel in our work together, and to know that it’s perfectly okay to seek another provider if they ever feel I’m not the right fit for their needs. Who I Work With I enjoy working with clients who are entering therapy for the first time, as well as those who have used therapy responsibly in the past for support during times of stress or transition. In my experience, individuals with a chronic history of serious or commonly termed “treatment-resistant mental health concerns” are often best supported through specialized programs or under the care of a specialist. My practice does not currently offer that level of specialization, and I believe it’s important to be transparent about this so clients can find the care that best meets their needs. Readiness and Engagement Therapy works best when clients are ready to engage in the process, have realistic expectations, and are motivated to work toward their own goals. Growth takes effort, both inside and outside of sessions. Because of this, I often provide “homework” or reflection exercises between sessions to help clients apply what they’re learning and make meaningful progress toward their goals. Support for Teens and Young Adults (Ages 16–21) When working with teens and young adults, I believe caregiver involvement plays an important role in supporting progress and maintaining consistency between therapy and daily life. I encourage some level of caregiver communication and support to help foster the best possible outcomes. Support for Parents and Caregivers While I do not currently see children under the age of 16, I have extensive experience in Early childhood development (ages 0–7) and enjoy supporting parents and caregivers who are navigating developmental or behavioral concerns with their young children. Helping a child always begins with helping their caregivers — through planning, education, and creating supportive environments that lay the groundwork for healthy growth and development.

My Therapeutic Approach In my work with individual clients, I take a strengths-based, solution-focused perspective and tailor my approach to meet each person’s unique needs. I draw from a variety of evidence-based practices, including Cognitive Behavioral interventions, Narrative approaches, and principles from Developmental, Lifespan, and Attachment theories. At the heart of my work is a deep belief in the power of human connection. I see therapy as an intentional, safe, and often sacred space — a place where we choose to connect, learn, and grow in our understanding of ourselves and others. My own personal foundation of faith and spirituality is what first led me to the helping professions. I find that these elements of perspective can be both grounding and complementary in the therapeutic process, and I welcome their integration when they are meaningful and relevant to my clients’ values and goals.
