Searching for the right therapist? Don't settle for just help...get top-notch help from an experienced professional! I am excited to explore with you how to reach your goals and start on the path to leading the life that you desire. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas with thirty years in the field. I graduated from Texas State University with a Master of Arts in Community Counseling with a focus in individual counseling and marriage & family therapy. I am also a certified Master Level Practitioner of NLP (the roots of EMDR). I take the privilege of serving clients seriously and strive to provide a safe environment where any issue can be discussed openly focusing on healing, growth, and self-discovery.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

When I first meet with a someone new, I approach the session from a person-centered modality of therapy, listening, getting to know the person, and building a safe and trusting environment where they can be all of who they are without judgment. From this place, I assist in determining what they want out of life and how we can work together to help overcome current problems and achieve personal goals and well-formed outcomes. I offer a flexible and broad approach to treatment including a variety of therapeutic techniques such as neuro-linguistic (NLP), cognitive-behavioral, dialectical behavioral, gestalt and family systems techniques, among others. My overall approach is integrative and follows the lead of the client based on their goals, outcomes, and comfort. Since all humans are different, I do not follow a cookie cutter approach to therapy, and offer support, guidance, and interventions to aid you in cultivating a life where you can heal from past issues, grow to your fullest potential, and discover new aspects of yourself to utilize in your personal and professional life.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

As a seasoned professional, I have utilized a variety of therapeutic modalities with success being able to assist clients in a way that resonates with their view of the world while offering compassion, confidence, and honesty whether short-term or long-term therapy is needed or desired.

My treatment methods

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

NLP Background and Treatment Intervention My study of Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP) began in 1992. I am a certified Practitioner and Master Practitioner of NLP (under Jonathan Rice, PhD and Andrea Stallsworth, LCSW-ACP, PC) from the Institute of NLP--Austin. I have completed Post-Masters NLP Training Level I and II as well New Code training with John Grinder (co-founder of NLP) and Carmen Bostic St. Claire. I also assisted in training Practitioner and Master Practitioner classes for several years. I have completed specialty trainings with the original innovators of the cognitive-based approach including Steve Andreas, Connirae Andreas, Robert Dilts, David Gordon, Marilyn and Al Sargent, Michael Hall, and Tony Robbins on topics such as: NLP and Relationships, Physical & Sexual Abuse and NLP, NLP and Hemispheric Therapy, Meta-states and Neurosemantics, Core Transformation, The Other Mind's Eye, Frame Games and NLP, Modeling Self-Concept with NLP, Modeling Visionary Leadership with NLP, Eriksonian Hypnotic Patterns, Modeling Patterns of Milton Erikson, Dreams into Reality, Meaningful Levels of Existence with NLP, Erikson Tasking Patterns and NLP and The Time to Rise Summit. With a client-centered approach I incorporate NLP presuppositions, principals, and therapeutic techniques in all my treatment modalities as it is my foundation for intervention, healing, growth, and self-discovery. Those techniques include setting well-formed outcomes, reframing, utilizing submodalities, new behavior generator, challenging and changing beliefs, timeline work, phobia/trauma cure, core transformation, etc. From there I offer an array of treatment modalities based on client need, comfort, and what will have the most exponential impact long-term.

Trauma Informed Care

Working in a crisis center, MHMR center, and for community non-profits has afforded me a plethora of experience providing trauma informed care; looking at how what happened to the client impacts them and what changes they may want to make to allow the trauma to be an aspect of their past instead of controlling them now and in the future. In providing trauma informed care, I use an eclectic approach to treatment including NLP, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, all from the core approach of the client's needs, desires, and readiness while utilizing client strengths to allow for ecological, long-term results.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I am in the process of becoming certified in DBT and utilize DBT principals and interventions including mindfulness, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness with other treatment modalities as they would be serve my client's needs. This is especially helpful with those who struggle with depression, anxiety, self-harming behaviors, ptsd, substance abuse, eating disorders, and high functioning autism.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized CBT interventions since I started practicing and find when integrating this with client centered therapy and other modalities, clients struggling with depression, anxiety, marital issues, add/adhd, health issues, grief and loss, ocd, and ptsd see great benefits.
