Hello and welcome! As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist, specializing in working with middle-aged and older adults, I understand the daunting task of finding the right therapist amidst a sea of options. In my own journey, I recently faced the loss of my father to Louis Body Dementia and my mother to COVID. Being their caregiver was a complex blend of trials and rewards, offering me insights into the significance of my own therapeutic experience during those trying days and nights. While caring for my parents, I temporarily set aside my 'professional hat,' but I emerged from that experience with newfound wisdom that enriched both my personal and professional life. This firsthand understanding has equipped me even more to support you and your family more effectively within both the medical and mental health care systems. Recognizing that the aging process presents a unique set of challenges and needs, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you navigate this season of your life. Together, we can face the complexities and find the needed strength and resilience.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first therapy session, my primary goal is to create a comfortable and welcoming space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. We'll begin by discussing what brings you to therapy and any specific goals or concerns you may have. I'll ask some questions to better understand your background, experiences, and the challenges you're currently facing. This initial session is also an opportunity for us to establish a connection and build rapport. Feel free to share as much or as little as you're comfortable with, and we'll work together to set the pace. I want you to feel heard and understood, and I'm here to support you in a non-judgmental way. Additionally, we can discuss your expectations for therapy and any preferences you may have in terms of therapeutic approaches. If you have questions about the process, please don't hesitate to ask. Our collaboration is a partnership, and I'm committed to working with you to achieve your goals and enhance your well-being.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have experience and specialized training in the various stages of the aging process and am well-versed in the physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and social changes that accompany aging. My expertise extends to navigating the challenges of life transitions, grief and loss, caregiving distress, chronic illness, autonomy, coping, depression, anxiety and engaging in difficult conversations related to end-of-life matters.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Person-centered therapy is a compassionate and empathetic approach that prioritizes the client's capacity for growth and self-discovery. This approach to therapy fosters a safe and supportive environment where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences freely. Through collaborative dialogue and reflective listening, clients learn how to gain insight, develop self-awareness, and work towards achieving their goals in a manner that honors their unique values and experiences.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

When appropriate, I utilize Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help client's develop greater resilience, emotional well-being, and the ability to lead a more meaningful life, even in the presence of pain and difficulty. By fostering "psychological flexibility", individuals can cultivate greater resilience, cope more effectively with stress, and pursue valued goals and aspirations.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) throughout many of my sessions as it is identifies and challenges unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. It also helps to develop practical coping skills, change negative patterns of thinking, and engage in adaptive behaviors to address concerns. This approach to therapy also promotes self-awareness and empowers clients to take an active role in their own healing process.
