I strive to foster a supportive, safe and caring environment within each of my client sessions. I encourage open communication to best understand each other and build the mutual respect needed to ensure our counseling relationship is beneficial and effective. We will work collaboratively to identify goals and desires, build new skills, strengthen current skills, so that each of my clients can look towards the future with hope and confidence. In our first session together, we will start with brief introductions and then turn our focus to your areas of concern. Together we will explore your motivations for engaging in therapy and what you hope to accomplish. We will begin a thorough intake assessment and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process or myself as a provider.
I have had the opportunity to provide services to clients in a variety of community and institutional settings including hospitals, correctional facilities, group practices and my own private practice for 12 years. I have experience providing services to adolescents, adults, couples and families.
I work with clients age 18+; adolescents, young adults and adults. I am also happy to provide services to couples and families.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy encompasses a range of techniques and approaches that aid the exploration and understanding of thoughts and ideas, the feelings attached and the resulting behaviors. Through CBT clients will learn to recognize unhelpful ways of thinking and identify patterns of unhelpful behaviors. CBT techniques help clients gain a better understanding of the behaviors and motivations of self and others, as well as gain problem-solving skills to cope with difficult situations.
I use techniques of Motivational Interviewing to explore client’s motivation for and resistance to change, develop discrepancy and explore the client’s decision-making process. Clients will be encouraged to express their motivation for and ambivalence toward change and develop action plans related. The techniques of Motivational Interviewing will help to support clients self-efficacy related to intended change.
