Are you or your child having concerns about gender or sexuality identities? Is your child struggling to make friends in school? How about having difficulty dealing with life changes, such as divorce/separation, moving, death or loss? If you have answered yes to any of these questions, this is the place for you. My name is Dr. Shaqueal Stevens, LCSW-C, LICSW and I am pleased to guide you and/or your child in the therapeutic process. I believe that no matter where we are in life regarding our past trauma or challenges, we can always work towards being our best selves. We are our greatest projects, and we owe it to ourselves to commit to our growth and success. Here, at Project: Committed to Me, I help you do just that. I specialize in treating children and adolescents (ages 7-22) for various diagnoses & troubling areas. Examples include LGBTQ+ identities, ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, social skills, self-esteem, etc. I have worked directly with youth & young adults for over 9 years. I empower clients to be the director of our sessions. Through trauma-informed care, I provide a non-judgmental space and a nurturing, safe, and comfortable environment.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session will consist of an introduction to therapy, an opportunity to get to know each other a little bit, and a questionnaire to gather background information. Clients can ask questions to ease their minds as well.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

As a Certified Mindfulness-Informed Professional, I utilize techniques consistent with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and mindfulness practices. This method is proven to be helpful for those experiencing depression, anxiety, and substance use, as well as other challenges. Additionally, for those facing the negative effects of trauma, I provide trauma-informed care and use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help reframe the mind and the behaviors that go along with the thoughts.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strengths include working with children, adolescents, and young adults who experience challenges related to gender identity and sexual orientation. I am patient, affirming, and supportive, and I focus on what is important to the client.
