Hi. I’m a clinical social worker, licensed in Virginia and Maryland. I also hold a license as a substance abuse treatment practitioner in Virginia. I received my Masters degree from Catholic University School of Social Work and I’ve been practicing for over 30 years. I work with people struggling with a variety of problems, including anxiety, depression, and trauma issues. I primarily work with individuals from young adulthood to early seventies.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I offer a complementary 15-minute consultation either by phone or telehealth before scheduling a first full appointment. In this consultation, we will talk briefly about what brings you to therapy and you will have the opportunity to ask me questions about my practice. This allows us to determine whether my approach to therapy will suit your needs. In the first full session, we will go into more detail about the challenges you are facing. I will collect information that will help me to develop a treatment plan that will guide the next sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have over thirty years of therapy and counseling experience in both mental health and addiction treatment. I have worked in a variety of settings, including private practice, and both outpatient and residential mental health and addictions treatment settings. My many years in practice give me the experience to assist people from a variety of backgrounds and with varied challenges.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use CBT along with other approaches based on the needs of the persons I see. CBT is beneficial for anxiety and depression, as well as other problems. Regardless of a person's diagnosis, I always tailor the treatment approach to meet the needs of the individual.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use a DBT-informed treatment approach for some individuals, based on need and preference. This includes the use of a workbook to learn skills and practice them during and outside of therapy sessions.

Psychodynamic

My training during and after graduate school was based in psychodynamic psychotherapy. Although I primarily utilize other treatment methods, my approached remains informed by this training. This means that together, we will explore some of the internal patterns and conflicts that influence feelings, thoughts and behaviors.

Motivational Interviewing

For individuals seeking to change behaviors, I approach the therapy with an eye toward persons' readiness for change. This means that I use different methods depending on both motivation and barriers to change at different points in therapy.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

I recognize and respect differences in individuals depending on their backgrounds. I work to ensure empathetic communication and interactions with people from diverse backgrounds.
