Hello there! I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) from North Carolina. I received my masters in 2019, and have been working in the field since 2020 professionally. I primarily use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) with elements mixed from other modalities like feminism and solution focused brief treatment as I work to aid and support issues related to: depression, anxiety, emotional management, mens issues, queer/lgbtq+ issues, and more. I primarily work with adults 18+ but I do have experience working with teens and couples as well.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with introductions, I'll work to understand the present status of your life, what you seek to gain from therapy with me, and try to develop an appropriate plan of action. I will also want to be informed on any sort of external factors that could potentially impact your life (work, family history, social engagements, etc) to give me a more fleshed image of you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe I can create an environment that is comforting, supportive, and emotionally affirming of any client experiences. I work to remain unbiased in my therapeutic work and welcome challenging thoughts while maintaining an even temperament and tailoring my style to the needs of the client, while being unafraid to admit fault or if a referral is appropriate as not to fail the individuals path to wellness.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

With the use of CBT, it aids me in understanding the clients awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and general behaviors. By working to create greater awareness of these I believe it can create a greater sense of self-control/ autonomy over ones life and choices of behaviors overall. Seeing as behaviors can be a useful reflection of someones state of mind at any point, I want my clients to be able to be comfortable in the choices they make and understand why they make them fully informed from both a logical and emotionally aware perspective. I use this as the predominant asset to aid in client empowerment and skill development to create newer, healthier habits and challenge previous, less beneficial ones.

Feminist

Feminist theory allows for me to examine the macro scale of the environment around the client. When considering someones mental health, while assessing internal experiences is important, knowing the internal and external influences that inform said experiences is as well. At times individuals may be conciously or unconsciously be experiencing bigotry or discrimination and these are greater stressors not just on how one sees the world, but how one engages with it as well. To be aware of this and be informed aids in developing tools of support for the individual and can, ideally, aid in mental wellness. I use this theory to gain an improved perspective on the client, their worldview, and in assessment of their environment.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

In certain treatments some of the matters focused on are much more practically achievable. So by shedding light on the problems at hand, developing a plan of action and appropriate resources, and following through it is possible to create a circumstance where the individual achieves their therapeutic goals in much more focused manner. I use this modality in those cases as well as making more goals for the client achievable and realistic.
