Hello! My name is Rebecca Woods. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serving clients in North Carolina. I have been practicing for 20 years. I have experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults. Seeking therapy can bring up a multitude of emotions. It can be scary! It can be exciting! I enjoy working with clients to increase understanding of how the therapeutic experience can be helpful and improve daily daily functioning.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Within our first session, I will ask questions to get to know why you are seeking therapy. I will also ask questions to understand your experiences and your history. With this understanding, I will collaborate with you to create goals and a plan to help you accomplish your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My approach as a therapist is truly a collaborative one. While I will provide treatment strategies, and facilitate practices, I will work with you to help you understand yourself. I will help you process challenges and will provide choice on strategies to assist you with processing and resolving challenges. My purpose as a therapist is to empower my clients to increase resilience and confidence to develop strategies and skills to work through obstacles in life.

My treatment methods

EMDR

Sometimes, we have challenging or traumatic situations that occur in life that impact healthy functioning. A trauma may be a single event, or chronic situations that occur in a person's life. I use EMDR within my practice to help my clients process and resolve traumatic memories. EMDR therapy involves integration of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in session to assist clients in adaptive resolution of memories. EMDR is evidence based and has a high rate of effectiveness in resolving traumatic memories.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have been using CBT in my practice for the past 20 years. CBT can be utilized to treat multiple challenges. CBT involves integrating thoughts, emotions and behaviors into sessions. Together, we will identify thoughts that are a part of creating challenging behaviors and emotions. We will work to explore and challenge the problematic thoughts with more healthy, rational thoughts. CBT interventions work to help change thoughts, behaviors and emotions to work for you and not against you!

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

Self compassionate, mindful-based therapy assists clients to be able to be in the present moment and notice and choose responses instead of reacting without choice. We focus on working to create emotional resilience, creating healthy self talk and creating increased understanding of the common nature of challenges vs. feeling isolation. Through mindful self-compassion practice, people can experience relief from problematic symptoms.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Through person-centered therapy, I provide clients support and a safe space to process challenges. Clients are encouraged and empowered to explore emotions, thoughts and identify mechanisms for change. Person-centered therapy involves a collaboration between client and therapist to determine goals and pathways to work toward goal achievement.
