Hello! My name is Keshia Keyes-Anderson, and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based out of Northern California. I have been working as a therapist since 2015, and I obtained my clinical licensure in 2019. In my time as a mental health provider, I have worked for various community-based organizations as well as within the Child Welfare system with varying target populations including but not limited to specifically the LGBTQIA+, Commercially Sexually Exploited Children and African American communities, as well as generally with individual adolescents, teens, adults, and couples. Through my clinical work I provide therapeutic support to clients who may be experiencing difficulty with their gender and/or sexual identity and expression (both internally and externally), clients with symptoms of anxiety and/or depression, clients who struggle to identify and maintain healthy relationship (romantic, platonic and/or familial) dynamics and boundaries and clients who express a desire to process traumatic experiences and any life stressors that may have resulted from any of these aspects of the human experience.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, clients can expect a warm welcome and a safe and supportive space. We'll start with introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing that brought you here. Together, we will establish goals, and this will allow me to create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. I will provide an explanation for any documents completed prior to the session and discuss the expectation for cancellations. I will also provide an opportunity for you to ask any clarifying questions you may have regarding our therapeutic relationship.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths as a provider are my welcoming personality, sense of humor, and empathy. I strive to be real and transparent with my clients. I genuinely care about helping my clients to identify and accomplish their goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have utilized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for the past nine years to assist clients in dealing with symptoms of depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital / relational problems, and severe mental illness. Through utilizing CBT I have been able to assist clients with gaining a better understanding of the behavior and motivation of others, learning to recognize one's distortions in thinking that are creating problems, learning to develop a greater sense of confidence in one's own abilities, facing one's fear, and learning to calm one's mind and relax one's body.

Couples Counseling

I have had the opportunity to work with many couples over the past nine years. While working with couples I have had the professional pleasure of assisting them in finding their definition/translation of happiness within their relationships. Further, I have helped couple's listen and understand one another, explore their wants and needs and teach the couples “Fair Fighting Rules” which can range from but are not limited to learning the benefits of, "I statements", ensuring issues are discussed one identified concern at a time, being able to take turns speaking, listening to understand and not simply to reply, and not yelling in moments of disagreement. I like to assist couple's with learning their love and apology language by using a quiz. I also assign homework in between sessions to help clients practice the skills explored during session in the "real world."

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

I have utilized Solution Focused Brief Therapy throughout my practice. While using this treatment modality I assist client's with setting goals and working out how to achieve them. The main goal in utilizing this modality is to find and implement a solution to the problem or problems as soon as possible to minimize the client's time spent in therapy and the time spent struggling.
