When working with clients, I use a mind-body approach to increase self-awareness, self-compassion, emotional regulation, and tools to exercise mindfulness. Therapy works best when we can identify strengths and use this as a foundation of our work together while also setting a goal for psychological growth through hands-on activities that will empower the therapeutic process. In a world that is go go go all of the time, I believe it is beneficial to prioritize fostering a sense of kindness towards ourselves and our world, which has been shown to reduce anxiety, depression, and increase self-esteem and creativity.

My education includes a PhD in Religious Philosophy, a Master of Divinity, and Master of Science in Psychology, and I am working on a PhD in Psychology. Although my schooling may sound impressive, I credit most of my ability in working the field is due to my upbringing and a legitimate concern for people. I also have a background in chemical dependency treatment. Regarding mental health treatment, there is no greater joy than working with my veterans. I realize that trauma is not purely a veteran or first responder issue. Trauma changes our outlook on life. As we deal with the source and effect of the trauma, regardless of the age and time when they occured, we can find resolution. I have been a counselor for more than 30 years and have honed skills that are often missing in many new therapists. My main focus has been working with veterans and their issues. PTSD, depression, anxiety, survivor's guilt and combat related issues are issues I have dealt with for many years. I understand PTSD because I live with PTSD and understand.

I feel that clients shouldn't have to be in therapy forever! While co-creating this process with you, I strive to balance my active listening with imparting active, hands-on techniques to help you reclaim your narrative and overcome obstacles in your path. I feel it's about more water rather than less soda, so to speak, and take both a clinical and holistic approach to helping you enhance alignment and experience deeper fulfillment in your journey. Along with my LCSW, I am trained in EMDR, certified in Theta Healing, Reiki, Transformational Life Coaching, and Therapeutic Touch, and Master Practitioner certified in Neuro Linguistic Programming, Hypnotherapy, and Time Line Therapy. I feel I provide a safe space where shame and judgements are left at the door, and we will explore your wants, needs, and feelings with curiosity and compassion. I feel it's very much a co-created process, as you know more about you than I ever will. The work is also far more about our uncovering your truth than you adopting mine. With that said, I have a wide array of modalities and approaches I feel I have quite dialed in, and we can collaboratively determine which tools and approaches best suit your needs. My hope is that our work together will help you feel not only hear and validated, but also empowered and aware of how to eat the elephant on your own going forward. I see this work as us walking side by side, with you gradually taking the lead with me supportively in your corner. If you have something pressing you wish to discuss in session, that will always take precedence. My job is ultimately to actively listen and hold space. With that said, if that's all I was doing, you'd inevitably say, "Robby, you're a nice guy. But I don't know how much we're actually getting done." To that end, I feel it's far more important to determine HOW you think rather than WHAT you think. So it tends to be important for us to explore unconscious limiting beliefs and emotions along with the conscious. You can also expect to learn clear and concise action steps (ranging from mindfulness exercises to creative writing prompts to holistic practices like meditation and breathwork) to help you regulate your emotions and reclaim your narrative. I feel that many people are hesitant to engage in therapy because they perceive a stigma tied to seeking support. After all, the notion of "mentally ill" does have a negative connotation. The way I see it, though the process is not about fixing a broken thing, but rather enhancing one's alignment and fulfillment (and okay, yes, also confronting obstacles to those pieces). But if the focus is on "Where am I trying to get to and how will I know that I got there?" where our work is to simply close the gap between here and there, it can help us leave shame and judgements at the door, and perhaps even enable you to look forward to increased awareness and empowerment in your journey forward.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of Arizona and Indiana. I received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Purdue University and a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Christian Theological Seminary. I have had the opportunity to work in and gain knowledge from a diverse collection of settings that include elementary, middle and high school, hospital chaplaincy department, private practice and private agencies working with families in the child welfare system. Each of these settings has provided me with hands-on experience working with individuals and families in crisis, as well as those who are faced with navigating some of life’s challenges such as divorce, loss, and addiction. As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I love a systems approach, understanding that we do not exist in a vacuum, but rather are part of larger systems. I take a non-judgmental, warm approach to therapy and I believe in tailoring my therapy towards my client's individual needs. Together we will establish goals and design a path towards a healthier way of being. I draw from a multitude of therapeutic techniques that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solutions Focused Therapy. Clients who work with me have a desire to change. Whether facing everyday challenges that are holding them back from living a fulfilling life or struggling with family dynamics that have caused distress or trying to navigate through grief, my clients can learn to use their insight to find new ways of functioning that better serve what they want from this life. My clients can see a future for themselves that brings peace, happiness and healing. The first step towards seeking help is often the most difficult. I am excited that you are here and look forward to taking this journey alongside you.

Are you finding that you are often misunderstood, disappointed or frustrated? Are you interested in developing ways to cope with the various demands in your life? Seeking therapy takes incredible courage. As you begin this journey of self-discovery, I recognize you may be nervous, overwhelmed or confused about what therapy entails. I’d love to share a bit about my approach to see if I’d be a good fit in helping you achieve your goals. There is tremendous insight that can be gained from reflecting on early childhood/adolescent experiences to identify the origin of behaviors and patterns. However, my therapeutic emphasis is on helping you move forward to live the life you desire by utilizing your inherent strengths and increasing self-awareness. I use a variety of approaches including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness and behavioral activation. Simply put, we will explore the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to unearth the patterns that have been hindering your quality of life. Clients tell me that I am warm, engaging, deeply empathetic and present in the moment to help them navigate pertinent issues. I also believe there is value in challenging clients to help them identify patterns and explore different viewpoints. My areas of special interest include life transitions, relationship issues, immigrant communities and third culture experiences.

I understand that sometimes life can be challenging and can hinder personal growth, happiness, relationships, quality of life, professional success, parenting among other things. You feel like you are spinning your wheels but not going anywhere. You feel exhausted, overwhelmed, anxious, apathetic, sad and/or irritated. You may be surprised to know that there are ways to cope with these feelings so you can grab the reigns and get back on that horse! You want to create meaningful changes but aren’t sure where to start. I believe that the catalyst to that change exists within each of us, sometimes we need a little help to find it. I have experience working with older adults, adults, (teens 17+), veterans, active-duty military and their families, college students, EMS personnel, and caregivers in the treatment of mental health and life transition issues, marital issues, interpersonal issues, deployment, military separation, reunification, divorce, pregnancy, work and school issues, parenting and end of life issues (grief/placement). I can also provide case-management services, life coaching and ESA evaluations/letters.

Carl Jung once said, "One day You will grow up and the world will ask you who You are. If You don't know who you are, the world will quickly tell You." I believe the active choices we make, play a crucial role in shaping our sense of personal satisfaction, emotional confidence, and overall well-being. Changing the story, you tell about yourself, can have a profound impact on how difficult or easy the next few years of your life will be. Will Your story be one of courage, conviction and personal empowerment, or a repetitive tale of powerlessness? Will it be a story of accountability and healing, or shame? You are the only with the power to decide you matter. Empower Your voice. Redesign and refine...Choose freedom.

Hello. I am James Moore and I have 55 years of experience as a clinical psychologist in a variety of settings including institutional, academic and private practice. I developed and ran a head injury treatment facility in Carbondale, Illinois, but have spent my last 36 years in private practice in Miami, Coral Springs and The Villages, Florida. I have specialized in psychological evaluation, neuropsychology, and forensic psychology. geriatric psychology and individual psychotherapy. My modes of treatment include psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and, when called for, some degree of psychoanalytic therapy. After 3 years in academia and 8 years as a forensic psychologist, I moved my family to Miami in 1986 and joined a large private practice firm. Three years later, I was entirely on my own and have been so ever since. I look forward to utilizing my unique experience to assist new clients to achieve a more satisfying and successful quality of life.
