Hi, I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) based in California. I have been practicing for 10 years. I am US Navy veteran and also an enrolled member of Oneida Nation of Wisconsin. I take pride in identifying with both of those groups as they help define who I am as a person, outside of being a mental health clinician. I have experience working with a broad age-range of clients (elementary age through elderly age).

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session is where I get to know my clients and my clients get to know me. If there have been any mental health screening tools that the client has taken before the first session, I will briefly go over those results, as clinically appropriate, with the client. I like to ask the client to describe themselves as they see themselves. I will ask questions such as: what brought you to therapy today, what symptoms are you having, what are some coping mechanisms you use, & what are your goals in coming to therapy?

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I have worked in community mental health in which psychoeducation, therapeutic interventions and stabilization for individuals experiencing a crisis are used. I have years of experience utilizing collaborative systems to ensure the treatment is patient-centered and utilizes both psychological care and physical health care. I believe that every client is different and that one method of treatment for an individual may or may not be one that best fits another client. Separating the client from their mental illness, so that they see themselves as a person and do not identify with their symptomology, is very important to the success of treatment.

My treatment methods

Eclectic

As a mental health clinician, I implement eclectic therapy in my treatment sessions to provide a personalized and flexible approach to client care. By drawing on techniques and strategies from various therapeutic modalities, I tailor each session to meet the unique needs and goals of my clients. This integrative method allows me to adapt and combine elements from approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic therapy, among others. Through eclectic therapy, I can address a wide range of issues and create a comprehensive treatment plan that fosters holistic healing and growth.

Grief Therapy

I implement grief therapy in my sessions to support individuals coping with loss. Through a compassionate and empathetic approach, I provide a safe space for clients to express their emotions and process their grief. We explore the various stages of grief, identify the unique impact of the loss on their lives, and develop personalized coping strategies. By addressing both the emotional and practical aspects of grief, I help clients navigate their journey towards healing and finding a new sense of normalcy. Through this therapeutic process, clients are empowered to honor their loss while moving forward in a healthy and meaningful way.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in my treatment sessions to help clients identify and modify negative thought patterns and behaviors. Through structured sessions, I guide clients in recognizing how their thoughts influence their emotions and actions. We work collaboratively to develop practical strategies and coping mechanisms to address and reframe distorted thinking, ultimately fostering healthier mental and emotional well-being. By integrating CBT techniques, I empower clients to gain insights, build resilience, and achieve their therapeutic goals.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

Using culturally sensitive therapy in treatment sessions, I ensure that treatment respects and incorporates the diverse cultural backgrounds of my clients. By recognizing and valuing their unique cultural identities, beliefs, and practices, I create a supportive and inclusive therapeutic environment. This approach involves being aware of cultural differences, addressing potential biases, and integrating culturally relevant techniques into the treatment process. By doing so, I help clients feel understood and respected, which enhances the effectiveness of the therapy and supports their overall well-being.
