I graduated from St. Edwards with a MA in Counseling 2014. I received my LCDC license in 2015. I became a fully licensed LPC in 2017 My regard for my clients is always unconditional and it is always positive. I truly want to help those who are having problems with feelings of depression, sadness, helplessness, and guilt, or any disorders that can cause complications in life. I want to help those who have problems with coping strategies like addiction, ghosting, and passionless communication. The things that disconnect a person from himself or herself. More than ever, we have a duty to take ownership and redefine ourselves. Sometimes this requires much work, reflection, pain, courage, and sometimes maybe even a rebirth. I believe I can provide help with these things. I would like to be a part of your journey toward your potential. I can provide a safe place where you can learn about emotional intelligence, about how to communicate in a healthy way, and how to create safe spaces. I believe that in order to build self-awareness, we must be metacognitive, which means we need to have active control over our cognitive processes. We learn how to think about our thinking, and know about our knowing. We can learn how to be aware of our awareness, and explore our wiring and making a motion to rewire, if needed. I believe that we must learn to be vulnerable. Practicing vulnerability isn't about doing something for others. You are building a better, stronger you. I also believe that it is important in therapy that the client begin to look inward of themselves. Self awareness begins with looking inward. This is where the transformation takes place. It's about evolving, expanding, and living closer to your truth and potential.

After many years of exploring a variety of jobs I finally began to focus on assisting others in this adventure called "life ." As an adult. I began serving through Christian ministry and then realized I was even more fulfilled in working more specifically in the wider field of mental health. After getting both master's and a doctoral degree in mental health, I worked in clinical settings, counseling centers, crisis centers, my own private practice , and university settings. While managing my own counseling center, I also served several years teaching graduate students in the areas of counseling and psychology. My joy comes from helping others regain control of life when cognitions, emotions, and behaviors have caused distress. We do not always understand the "why" of life experiences, however we can gain mastery of our thinking, feeling, and doing and continue to enhance functioning and happiness.

I specialize in brief collaborative therapy where we look at current issues, how you cope, how you learned the coping skills and alternatives solutions. We will look at your self-care including spirituality and how to improve your self care if needed. Weekly assignment tasks related to your short term goals will be agreed upon. We will work together to learn and understand where you are now and how the past has impacted you. Engaging in therapy can be anxiety provoking, exciting and freeing. If you are willing to work on our mutually agreed upon assignment between our counseling sessions, you will find we make progress. I worked in criminal justice prior to being licensed in Michigan where I grew up and studied. Upon moving to Chicagoland, I worked 10 years with a crisis response team and an employee assistance program. This is where I learned to develop skills to drill down into client issues and work with the client to reduce discomfort and improve coping skills. Our counseling sessions did not last beyond 6-8 meetings. I moved to Texas in 2003 and since then have continued to work on crisis teams and with military members/spouses on installations. My practice has been focused on supporting couples communications; life transitions including grief/loss, career transitions, parenting skills and integrating/applying client's spiritual practice into every day life. Clients describe me as safe to talk with about difficult topics; active and contributing to the dialog; creative in opening up behavioral and cognitive options.

Hello Friend! Everyone at one point or another will find themselves dealing with a host of unbearable stressors, as if weighed down. We may even describe the feeling as 'lost in a web of frustration'. Some may describe that sense of being as anxious, fatigue, or sadness, as if our unique threshold is completely depleted. But did you know feeling anxiousness is normal? Many would not know that feeling stress is actually a sense of determination for control and feeling tired is just temporary. Anxiousness is innate in all of us to escape danger. What's not healthy is when the stressors has crossed the threshold to what feels comfortable and interrupts our daily habits/responsibilities. But how do we 'fix things' when all we want is to be alone? When life throws us lemons, make lemonade? As simple as finding a helper - me. I’ll help you navigate the web of confusion to find YOUR empowerment. My journey began as a young child whose home was a host of struggles/abuse which later became insight into the struggles others experience. I found a well-regarded psychotherapist who helped me learn life-long cognitive tools. Later, as a psychotherapist in a clinical setting, I garnered a vast amount of knowledge which helped me to specialize in various modalities of treatment. Proper psychotherapists should emphasize there is no such thing as "the magic pill" and most treatments don't require medication. I hold a high standard for clients' rights as a mental health advocate with a high standard for myself. I serve all slices of society including those dealing with depression, grief, anxiety, relationship issues, past trauma, adjustment, chronic health and other issues. Together, we can identify what's not working for you. We will find solutions you innately use and form goals that do NOT require much change in your life.

I am seeing patients only thru telehealth. I have experience and am comfortable working with people from every day mental health difficulties to chronic serious mental health disabilities including co-occurring disorders. I lean towards person centered and Dialectical behavior therapy. I have worked in multiple settings. I always wanted to be a doctor but learned in college they don’t talk to their patients much. I switched to psychology with an emphasis on counseling and have loved it since . I enjoy helping people and seeing them help themselves . I was raised a child of a military service member and had to learn how to adapt with every move. Learning to adapt and find the best balance with every move became second nature . I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings . I have worked with refugees with limited English and families in the foster care system in addition to other mental health needs. I have experience with the court systems and people in step down programs coming from the state hospital or other higher levels of care. I have over time found Dialectical behavior therapy or a mix of therapies that works best with clients. I am open to alternative lifestyles . I have attended training's telehealth and more. I have found everyone has their own level of comfort and that may not include a need to change much for everyone but an acceptance of self and current abilities. I aim to meet any client on their level and help only as much as they would like. When starting I like to look at the whole picture with a summary of the past. I do not do trauma work without a good level of coping skills. I will assign homework based on client individual needs .

Hello, I am Shari. Are you looking for someone you can feel safe to address your needs and not feel judged? Are you looking for someone authentic and supportive? Are you having difficulty finding someone who will be honest and direct? I work well with anyone who is motivated to start addressing their concerns right away. I believe finding the right therapist can be challenging, but it should not be a barrier to getting help. Finding a therapist should feel comfortable and natural. I am told I have a way of helping people feel as if they have known me before. I like to get an understanding of the source of your problem. Then together we explore how the source influences your thinking. People live life through their experiences which do not always serve us very well in today's time. I also believe in working from a holistic approach. Did you know our daily routines can prolong your recovery or cause mental instability? I have experienced being in a therapeutic relationship and believe in normalizing the need to get help in this way.
