My name is Matt Semanision. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Pennsylvania. I have spent the majority of my professional career working with the LGBTQIA+ population. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. My approach to therapy is honest, open communication, with mutual respect being of utmost importance. My wish for you is that you feel safe so you are able to share your thoughts, feelings and emotions. I feel the only way you will be able to get anything out of our therapeutic relationship is you and I working together on establishing mutually agreed upon goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

LGBTQIA+, Addiction, Personality Disorders, Guilt and Shame and PTSD. Specifically I have been working with adults.

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT acknowledges the need for change in a context of acceptance of situations and recognizes the constant flux of feelings—many of them contradictory—without having to get caught up in them. My goal as a therapist is to help patients understand and accept that thought is an inherently messy process. DBT is itself an interplay of science and practice. is a structured program of psychotherapy with a strong educational component designed to provide skills for managing intense emotions and negotiating social relationships.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is widely recognized as one of the most extensively researched and empirically supported therapies. It has demonstrated effectiveness in treating various mental health conditions, such as anxiety disorders, depression, and substance use disorders. CBT focuses on identifying and challenging maladaptive thoughts and behaviors and developing more constructive coping strategies.
