Hello. I'm Robert Hawkins, LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) based in Pennsylvania and am eager to begin working with you! I earned my undergraduate degree in Neuroscience, and my Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. With these two specialties I work my best to help my clients observe and better understand their own minds and bodies to create a balance that eventually becomes a harmony between themselves, their goals, and their lives.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Within the first session we will go over the details of the issue or problems as you see them. We will go over some details of the concern in terms of duration, intensity, and frequency, along with any other parameters you find important. We will get to know each other a bit and how we fit, and try our best to be honest about if therapy will be appropriate between the two of us. Lastly, we will come up with a plan on action in regard to treatment moving forward along with a rough timeline for what we can expect in terms of improvement. After that, we can schedule our next session and begin our journey together.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe one of my greatest strengths as a provider is cultivating a space where you can feel safe and open. I believe therapy does not work if you and I are not a good fit together; where you, the client, can feel safe and secure with your thoughts and feelings, no matter what they may be. By spending time to ensure this is the case prior to diving into problems and trying to solve issues for you, we will be more efficient as a team to thoroughly, and effectively, make appropriate changes.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for me is a baseline approach to approach a concrete problem with a concrete goal in mind. When using CBT we will look at your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, and attempt to configure them to be optimal for what you want out of life.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy is a nuanced approach to help accept some of the thoughts and realities of your world and then also move forward with them. Taking a sample of many different approaches, ACT often can help when you are feeling stuck or unable to find a clear path forward.

Existential

Existential Therapy is a great tool I use for those who are unsure or unclear about who they are, or what life has in store for them. Existential therapy techniques are more open ended and less rigid. With this technique we can explore some of the hidden feelings and thoughts, along with uncovering values and goals that may not have reached consciousness yet.

Gestalt

Gestalt Therapy is a way to address the here and now with the different parts and pieces of who we are. By focusing on the moment within therapy, and dividing up ourselves into parts we can examine how those parts fit together and whether we need to consider making changes so that the best parts of us are comfortable and the less appropriate parts are modified.

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, like ACT, are part of the CBT umbrella. REBT, unlike ACT, will challenge and confront thoughts and feelings that are not useful or are harmful to you and your goals. By utilizing REBT we can develop skills and techniques that best offer you a rational, clear, and focused approach to your short-term and long-term goals.
