Hi I'm Kristal Bayer, I attended the University of California, Santa Barbara for undergrad where I majored in Psychology and minored in education and went on to complete my Masters degree in Social Work at Cal State Long Beach in 2011. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over ten years of experience working in California. I have worked with a wide range of clients in my practice, including Toddlers to the elderly. My therapy style is warm and client-oriented. I walk alongside my clients, helping them learn to cope with life stressors and bring insight into harmful coping mechanisms. To assist clients in developing positive problem-solving skills and positive social interactions to increase self-esteem and develop self-awareness. My approach is tailored to each client upon initial assessment. I applaud you for coming this far and seeking therapy, a decision that sometimes may not be the easiest. I look forward to meeting you and assisting you in your journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

After your initial intake, first sessions will be focused on building rapport and further exploring symptoms and triggers with you. I want to assure that you feel that you and I are a good match and you feel confident in moving forward in therapy. Depending on existing symptoms, I will build a treatment plan tailored to your needs and then make sure you're informed in the treatment modality and plan to make sure that it's something you feel comfortable with.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I am trained and experienced in Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Seeking Safety, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Positive Parenting Program and parent child interactive therapy. The advantage of being trained and certified in these models is my ability to pull from each of these practices to suit your needs.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my biggest strength as a clinician is to listen and assuring you that you've been heard and understood. That in itself can go a long way. I have been certified and experienced in a variety of evidence based practices and I believe that education allows me to pull tools from each modality and tailor it to what suits you the best. Last but not least, another strength is to tailor therapy to your needs, positive and person centered psychology is at the core of my treatment practice.
