Hello! My name is Samantha Vamosy and I am so happy you are interested in working together. I know starting a therapy process whether you have before or this is your first time can be scary and uncomfortable. I hope we can work through this time together making this journey as helpful and special as possible. My passions have always aligned with helping others and listening in a compassionate, non-judgmental, and curious way. I find real change occurs when a person can fully explore their life in a holistic way. Whether it is current mental health symptoms or past traumas holistic healing is possible for everyone. I received my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Fairfield University and achieved my LPC after completing 3000 hours in an outpatient clinic for substance abuse. I value a person-centered approach that focuses on strength-based and solution-focused techniques. I also incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy to be able to challenge unhealthy patterns that no longer serve you. Together we will identify goals, by exploring what is and is not working and be able to collaboratively come up with solutions and learning tools to better overcome barriers to success. We will work at your pace and readjust goals and steps as we go along. Through these techniques we will work together to identify maladaptive thoughts that contribute to avoidance behaviors and fears that keep us stuck, feeling even more anxious and often depressed. Overcoming life transitions, challenges, and uncertainty can be difficult and no one should have to face these decisions on their own!

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Sessions will begin with us working towards getting to know each other and exploring what brought you to therapy to be able to understand better what goals to begin with and how to break these down into small attainable goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My biggest strengths are being a genuinely caring, empathetic, nonjudgmental listener who actively wants to help you achieve your goals. I have a background in working with people who struggle with substance abuse and poor coping skills. I have worked with a diverse group of individuals including those of different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. I have experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community as well. I strive to give every individual the individualized treatment they deserve recognizing that everyone's journey and needs are different. I pride myself on being able to work at the pace of the client and offer support and guidance when needed.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

ACT is a therapeutic approach that focuses on helping you accept what is out of your personal control, while committing to actions that enrich your life. Together we will work to identify these varying aspects by identifying personal values.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I intend to incorporate Person-Centered Therapy (PCT) to foster a therapeutic environment centered around my clients' unique experiences, values, and goals. PCT, developed by Carl Rogers, emphasizes the importance of empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness in the therapeutic relationship. I will prioritize creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, accepted, and understood. Through active listening and reflective techniques, I aim to help clients explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences at their own pace and direction. My approach will involve collaboratively setting therapeutic goals that are meaningful and relevant to each client's personal growth and well-being. I hope to help empower clients to tap into their own inner resources and strengths to navigate challenges and find solutions that resonate with their values. By fostering self-awareness, self-acceptance, and personal empowerment, I aim to support clients in achieving greater clarity, self-understanding, and overall psychological well-being through Person-Centered Therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to distress. Through collaborative exploration and practical strategies, I will work with clients to understand the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we will set specific goals and develop structured interventions to promote positive change. CBT techniques such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, and problem-solving skills training will be utilized to empower clients in managing symptoms of anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health issues. By fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment, I aim to equip clients with lifelong coping skills and strategies that promote resilience and enhance overall well-being.

Eclectic

In our sessions, I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, which means I draw on a variety of therapeutic techniques and theories. This approach allows me to customize our treatment to specifically address your unique concerns, goals, and preferences. Rather than adhering to just one therapeutic method, I integrate elements from different approaches—such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Humanistic Therapy—based on what resonates most with you and what is most effective for your situation. I believe in a collaborative process where we work together to find the strategies and interventions that work best for you. This flexibility ensures that our therapy is tailored to meet your individual needs and that we can explore different avenues to help you achieve your therapeutic goals.

Strength-Based

In our work together, I utilize strength-based methods, which means I focus on identifying and building upon your existing strengths and resources. Rather than solely focusing on challenges or problems, we'll explore the qualities and skills that have helped you navigate difficulties in the past and can empower you in the present. We'll collaborate to identify your unique strengths—such as resilience, creativity, or determination—and explore how these strengths can be utilized to achieve your goals and enhance your well-being. By emphasizing your strengths, we can aim to empower you and foster a sense of confidence and motivation in addressing challenges. This approach is about recognizing that you already possess valuable resources that can support your personal growth and help you overcome obstacles.
