"Grief is like the ocean; it comes in waves, ebbing and flowing. Sometimes the water is calm. and sometimes it is overwhelming. All we can do is learn how to swim" Vicky Harrison Grief is a natural and human response to loss, which is experienced through the lifespan. Grief and loss can be experienced in various forms and can be caused by a wide range of situations and events such as death of a loved one, loss of identity, life transitions, change in health, loss of independence, struggles with infertility, miscarriage/stillbirth, and loss of dream. Many of my clients come to me experiencing feelings of sadness, loneliness, anxiousness, disconnection from self and others, dissatisfaction, psychosomatic complaints, and questioning their faith. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker I strive to help my clients understand the many facets of loss, working through unresolved grief which may be impacting their lives currently. Together we uncover the root causes of the presenting symptoms and work through them utilizing a wide variety of modalities tailored to each individual's needs. I am particularly passionate about working with mothers of children with special needs; physical, cognitive, medical, and emotional.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
The therapeutic relationship is the foundation and cornerstone for healing and transformation. Like building a house, without a strong foundation the space may feel uneasy and unstable. By establishing a space that feels collaborative, safe, non-judgmental, and inviting we begin building the therapeutic relationship. Another crucial element in building a strong therapeutic relationship is to meet clients where they are in their journey, moving at a pace that feels tolerable as well as challenging. By holding space for compassion, acceptance, creativity, and curiosity, clarity emerges.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
Incorporating my personal experiences into my professional role as a therapist is a powerful way to make a positive impact on my clients. My strengths lie in my ability to provide empathetic and expert support to those who are experiencing grief and loss, especially within the context of raising children with special needs.
