I am a bilingual therapist that uses a culturally competent lens to empower individuals. I utilize a down to earth, genuine, and caring approach to help clients build resilience, heal from life’s challenges, and unlock their own strengths. I specialize in anxiety and depression, life transitions and crisis intervention services. I work with adolescents (age 11 +), adults, couples and families. My parents came from Cuba in order to open up the doors for me to have what they never had the opportunity to obtain. I am the first person in my family to attend college and to this day the majority of my family does not speak English. My family raised me in a culture where family and relationships are highly valued. I feel very fortunate to have blended cultural values and morals, as this helps me better understand others from different cultures. Since I was 9 years old, I have known that being a therapist was my life’s calling. While growing up my family and friends held, the typically Hispanic mentality of believing that mental health is something you can overcome with will power and strength. In high school, I would teach myself about different diagnoses and try to educate all my friends and family about the benefits of therapy to overcome these harmful beliefs. In therapy I learned that will power is not enough, you need a skilled person to guide you, and I can be that guide for you.
Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.
I like working with motivated clients who are ready to face their challenges. My personal style is to remain nonjudgmental, supportive, and encouraging; my clients usually tell me they feel comfortable, safe, and relaxed during our sessions. I teach coping strategies to use outside of sessions.
