Welcome! As many of us know the modern world can be a frantic place, one where demands are constant, and space is limited. In therapy you have a chance to pause and take stock, to become more aware of our feelings and to re-examine the choices we are making in a reflective and constructive way. I aim to provide a supportive relationship within which my clients can safely explore and better understand themselves and their relationships. I take an active role in helping people investigate a broader range of options than at first may appear and invite them to expand the limits of their imagination. I wish to encourage confidence and resilience in managing feelings of doubt or despair, and to help find a positive and affirming way ahead. My clients consist of children, adolescents and young adults experiencing roadblocks from emotional turmoil to family stressors and communication issues affecting that satisfaction and joy we all strive for. Like most people, we want to lead a life of significance and balance, and we know we are meant for more. You don't have to experience this alone with the right support you will learn that happiness is not a mysterious force it is the result of a set of skills that anyone can learn. Working together we will improve on positive emotional well-being and getting to your comfort zone.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Congratulations in making your first step! During our initial session an assessment is completed. By learning some very specific things about your life, including your background, symptoms, relationships, work, health, and goals, your therapist can more accurately determine how to help you and how to start off on the right track. The reason for this is that I consider our first session an “evaluation”, meaning we get a 360 view of your life and your goals. Sometimes folks come in for therapy thinking that a certain area of their lives is “irrelevant” to the problem at hand. Remember therapy is a process that will unfold over time. If you can have patience with the process, and with yourself in the growth, you will see results.

What treatment methods and tools do you utilize?

I can treat children, adolescents and young adults who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, social and psychological difficulties. By enabling a young person to feel safe in our therapeutic relationship, I help them to understand, process and manage inner conflict and presenting needs. Cognitive Behavior Therapy techniques can be employed to enable a young person to enact change. Consequently, numerous CBT elements could have application depending on the young person’s goals and capacity to achieve them. CBT is most useful when unhealthy patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviors, or a lack of certain skills are interfering with a young person’s progress. In addition to Family Therapy, Play Therapy for young children, Social Skills training and Motivational Interviewing skills.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I work with many individuals suffering with complex trauma, including those under the age of 18 years either individually or with their families. In addition to working with kids getting out of the juvenile system and trying to get their life back on track. Types of goals clients work on through individual therapy: Improving social skills and overall social functioning Assertiveness training Problem-Solving Reducing risks to safety Identification of emotions Coping with emotions Improving communication Increase self-awareness Process challenging situations
