Emotions, relationships, communication, loss, addiction, trauma, change. Life is a cycle of joy & pain, and at times, it may feel like the pain is winning. I believe you are powerful beyond measure, that you have all the answers and solutions you seek but the pain and circumstances of life often block your access to them. You may not fully believe how powerful you are now, but, if you allow me, I can help you find this truth. You are not broken. You don't need to be fixed. We all need some help now and then and helping others is the core of what I do. I've been empowering individuals since 1999. Using an extensive set of skills, combined with compassion, understanding, and a non-judgmental and collaborative approach, we will focus on restoration rather than pathology. Together we will restore and celebrate the courageous, and resilient you! I specialize in the healing of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, mood stabilization and addiction recovery. I hold an advanced degree in psychology, I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. Clients have described my counseling style as transparent, authentic, and real. I am extremely competent, but I curse some, and I'll compassionately encourage your growth. You are important to me, and you will know this by how I give you my undivided attention during sessions.

I have worked in the treatment since i was 36 and have 35 years of experience. My early experience was in the drug and alcohol and relapse prevention field. During that time i attended the Gestalt Institute in Cleveland, Ohio where I took 4 years of intense training. This lead me to find that therapy is not a method for me to figure out the client but a means for the client to gain greater self-awareness in facing their own life aspirations and struggles. I place focus on clients’ somatic awareness, especially breath, so being more in their body so they can try on new physical and intellectual styles in facing their world. I have a lot of knowledge about what is called the 12 step process and have melded together spirituality and religion in my own life. Prior to being a counselor/ therapist i taught school, painted steel bridges and other structures, and was a machinist at a large steel company, that like the many in our area have since closed their shops.

I have 31 years of experience providing counseling. I use cognitive behavioral therapy, stressing that what we think determines what we feel and what we do. For many reasons, people learn unrealistic or destructive thoughts that cause them problems in their lives. Therapy works towards more realistic thinking, and avoiding old and destructive thinking. As I like to say, "therapy is a conversation with a destination," and realistic thinking is that destination. While I am a Christian, I am not trained as a Christian Counselor. I am a "Counselor who is a Christian." My training is secular, and I regularly see people or all faiths, or none at all. I do not offer court ordered services, nor do I do assessments for custody, or any other legal purpose. Unfortunately, I cannot accept Medicare, or Medicare based plans. The world is changing, and more and more people are reaching out. I am seeing more men that have been in abusive relationships. There are also more people dealing with loss. Coming to my office is not like going to a big mental health clinic where you just another number on a spreadsheet. In my care, you are a person, and you'll be treated like one.

Welcome! My name is Evan Miller and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and psychotherapist in the state of Pennsylvania. The goal of therapy is to facilitate personal growth and help you improve your life. I believe there is no one-size-fits all approach to therapy, so this can take many shapes and forms depending on your needs. Whether you're looking to build self-awareness, strengthen your relationships, change your unwanted habits, better manage your stress or just feel better emotionally - I am here to help! I consider the therapeutic relationship to be fundamental to all forms of good therapy, so I continually strive to create an environment that is supportive, safe, authentic, comfortable and non-judgmental. While I have specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (M.I.) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, I utilize a person-centered and integrative approach that also incorporates elements of attachment theory, existential-humanistic theory and harm reduction philosophy.

My passion is working with children, teenagers, young adults, couples and families to process trauma and difficult experiences so they can experience growth and healing within themselves and their relationships. Through my work with individuals and family's I have learned the deep importance of understanding "what has happened" to people rather than viewing people through the lens of "what is wrong with people". Likewise, the importance of understanding one's family of origin and how this shapes our views of people and the world and impacts how we relate with people and navigate our world. I work from a relational, psychodynamic, family-systems, trauma-informed, and neurobiological perspective. Feel free to reach out for more information!

If you are overwhelmed, lost and feeling down, I would like to talk to you about how therapy can benefit you. I use a person-centered, empowerment-focused approach. I believe everyone has strengths and potential to emerge on the other side, given unconditional positive regard. I strive to create a radically safe space in which clients feel seen, heard and validated. My goal to collaborate with you to explore what safe space looks like or means to you in today's world. I meet where the client is, and together we appreciate their needs and know that their needs and feelings do matter. I do require weekly appointment for new clients for 1-2 months depending on the severity of presenting problems. It is difficult to build therapeutic rapport, complete assessments without meeting weekly at least for a month. We may discuss biweekly sessions, and new clients would benefit most from weekly, long-term therapy services in my practice. I specialize in complex PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship issues and women's issues. I practice culturally responsive treatment, and intersectionality guides my practice. I am certified in DBT and tailor treatment based on the client's unique presenting concerns and needs, drawing from CBT, DBT, coaching techniques, Solution Focused Approach, Motivational Interviewing, Internal Family System and body-based approach. I am currently available on the Zoom Pro platform only. I do not work with court-mandated cases, or custody cases involving law. Education: San Diego State Unversity, Masters in Social Work (Clinical Concentration) University of California, Los Angeles, BA in Sociology Languages: English Japanese Some Thai Client Testimonial: "I have been blessed to work with Risa as a client since 2020. I came to Risa as a neurodivergent patient who was struggling with undiagnosed anxiety and depression. These conditions were unidentified and unmanaged for most of my adult life, and they started to negatively impact my overall health, personal life, career, and quality of life. Risa is one of the most compassionate, detail-oriented, and supportive medical professionals I have ever met. Whenever I am mentally or emotionally struggling, Risa is always there to help me work through the tough times with kind and positive regard. She connects with her clients uniquely and specially. She displays a natural abiity to make patients feel comfortable and safe. -client C

Hi, I'm a therapist with over thirty years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families and historically getting positive results. I tend to work with families with special members such as teens and seniors. I have always worked with teens as it seemed to be a population others found difficult, but I liked the challenge. Now that I am a senior, I better understand the needs of our demographic. I tend to utilize a Family Systems approach which sees the individual in a family context as the majority has grown up in some form of family, whether related by blood or not. I've also taught Marriage and Family Therapy through what is now Drexel University's Family Therapy Program and have offered professional Supervision as a Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. By working with the client in a collaborative, goal setting manner, faster more positive results seem to be achieved.

As a licensed professional counselor with over 18 years in mental health experience, I have worked in a variety of settings before settling in private practice, and most recently virtual. Though it has been a challenge, I am very pleased and honored to have been a part of the process to advocating for telemental healrh services. As an undergraduate and graduate student, I recognized first hand the lack of access to mental health services in Rural Pennsylvania. I have advocated at all levels for more accessible care for clients as I wanted to advocate for those who seemed to be falling between the cracks. I initially began working with children and adolescents, however; I have worked with adults and geriatrics as well. I have worked with various different levels of care including inpatient, outpatient, private practice, family based, juvenile detention, wrap around services, schools based, applied behavior analysis, university, and in a prison setting. I to a leap of faith to start my own practice during the pandemic, and I am so grateful to have a lot better work life balance to focus my full attention on providing quality care to my clients.

Hi, there, I'm Taffie - Thank you so much for talking with me! Sometimes it's hard to ask for help - and therapy is a great start! Therapy is not at all scary - often it is a conversation that opens up new thoughts and emotions. Are you looking for a safe welcoming place where you can just be? Be heard, be valued, be accepted exactly where you are? I invite you into my space to experience these thoughts and emotions. As a therapist, I incorporate different approaches which address a variety of mental health issues. I empower you to move forward in life in a way that is dynamic and nurturing. I have an unwavering belief that you can experience change based on your needs and goals. We can walk through challenge and fear together to help you create a fulfilling life. My specialties are relationships with family and other significant folks - such a crucial part of our lives. I also can address trauma and PTSD, anxiety, depression and the fluctuations of our mood and emotions. I am always open to discussions of gender identity and sexual identity. I would like to listen as you articulate the issues you are dealing with at this time and help you find the direction you're looking for. It can be freeing to have someone listen, ask questions and make observations - because this time is about you. One of my favorite quotes is: "I am a lighthouse, rather than a lifeboat. I do not rescue, but instead help others to find their way to shore". If you are searching for the way to the shore, I can help.

Your story matters. Your life has value. You are worth it. Seeking help through life's difficulties can be daunting. It can, at times, also be met with some disapproval by others who don't understand the position that you are in or the struggles you face.
