I have been in the field for over 25 years and received my graduate degree from the University of Pittsburgh with an LCSW and QCSW. Blah, Blah, Blah! But those things aren’t as vital as me sharing with you what I bring. As you can see from my pictures, I am very optimistic and happy. I bring this same spirit to the therapeutic process. I strongly believe in healing through humor, so I laugh and help things seem organic in the session. My office is small, quaint, warm, and cozy. It always has an effervescent, calming scent that relaxes the room. You can sit on the couch or in a comfortable chair, and we will casually discuss the week’s challenges. You are the driver of your ship, the master of your life. Please think of me as a passenger in your car, taking directions as you guide each week on how we need to address your treatment needs. Let’s take this trip together!

Hello, my name is Veronica/Vee and as a first-generation Chicana (Mexican American) I have learned the importance of how a person’s identities intersect and shape their life experiences. I am a culturally affirming therapist that shows up in every session with authenticity. My approach in the therapy space is personalized to you as I integrate a variety of methods such as strengths-based approaches, cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic interventions, and compassion focused therapy techniques because therapy shouldn’t be “one size fits all.”

I am a psychotherapist who works with a diverse population of people. My goal is to collaborate with individuals to assist them in achieving their therapy goal(S). My treatment modalities are cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, and Ericksonian hypnotherapy approaches. Although I used these modalities, I do not use a one size fits all approach. I am a think-out-of-the-box clinician that will often challenge clients to try approaches that may be out of their comfort zone. Some examples of my experience include working with individual clients on developing skills in coping with mental health conditions/diagnosis, life stress, finding balance, and improving self-esteem. Although I use these approaches, my clients tell me it feels like we are having a conversation as opposed to feeling like they are in a therapy session. I have a specialization in working with Veterans, LGBTQI, men, and people of color populations. However, I work with all people who are seeking mental health services. I am licensed in DC (LICSW), VA (LCSW), MD (LCSW-C), and PA (LCSW). I have BS in Human Ecology, BA in Humanities from The Ohio State University, MSW from San Jose State University and Post Masters fellowship in mental health from Stanford University.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and I’m a registered supervisor with my board. In my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings within public health, mental health treatment, substance use treatment, inpatient treatment, and private practice. While I have training in a number of therapeutic models, I primarily utilize existential approaches in therapy since their tenants are relatively universal in nature and relate well to most people's experiences. These tenants focus on an individual’s search for meaning, fears of loss, feelings of isolation, and the foundations of hope we build for ourselves. In terms of other models of treatment, I have certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Critical Incident Stress Management, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I have extensive training in culturally-integrated therapy, sexual health therapy, cyberpsychology, and Gottman-based therapies for couples. I have had the privilege to work with a wide range of clients in terms of age, gender, race, social economic status, and acuity of symptoms. While everyone has something unique to bring to therapy I find the most fulfillment working with couples, those dealing with issues regarding their sexuality, first responders (police, firefighters, EMT’s), individuals recovering from trauma, and people dealing with concerns with technology such as video game or online addiction. Regardless of what you are looking for from therapy, my aspiration is to provide an open and welcoming environment where a collaborative relationship can be built to assist you in exploring concerns that you have in your life.

Hello! I’m Nina, a Licensed Clinical Therapist who has been working in trauma intervention for 17+ years. Before becoming a therapist, I worked as a rape crisis counselor, a trauma-healing self-defense instructor, and trauma-informed care consultant for non-profits. I approach therapy using multiple modalities. I believe in the mind-body connection and integrate mindfulness and body-based interventions where needed, including a focus on the physiology of stress and emotions. I use a wholistic approach to therapy, exploring all your identities, ambivalences, and values, and believe that understanding your upbringing and cultures are critical to how you cope and relate to the world and yourself in it. I specialize in working with trauma survivors, and specifically with people from the following communities: - adult children of multicultural, multiracial, and immigrant families - fellow South West Asian/North African and Middle Eastern-identified people - LGBTQIA+ - survivors of sexual abuse/assault - veterans - people seeking sex and intimacy support and exploration (including people practicing kink and non-monogamy).

I have a master of science in mental health counseling from Capella University. I am trained to work with individuals, groups, families and couples. I also have extensive knowledge and sensitivity in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, bipolar, difficult life transitions, parenting issues, relationship problems, LGBTQIA issues and other life challenges. My understanding of counseling comes from many different theoretical orientations. I believe that the client or clients have the solutions to their dilemmas within one’s self. Therefore the counselor does not have the “answers” to the client’s “problem” but is a facilitator of the process that helps the client take responsibility and action and come to a resolution. I am here to support and guide you on that journey.

Welcome! I'm an LCSW-C in Maryland and earned my MSW at the University of Maryland at Baltimore. I've been practicing over thirty five years and because I've loved the time I've spent in this work, the time has flown! I've worked in the mental health industry at many levels, and this helps me understand how to connect clients with the best type and level of treatment for them. My experience includes private practice/outpatient, inpatient care as well as running an innovative intensive outpatient care program for active seniors as a clinical director. I've also work for organizations which reviewed care, collaborating with the treating provider to ensure the quality of care is of the highest it can be. As a social worker, I was trained from day one to provide client-centered, strengths-based, unconditionally positive regard, 'person in an environment' therapy. This means that I begin where the client is, and I focus throughout on building and maintaining a therapeutic relationship that supports my client in helping them use our work to achieve what is important to them. I avoid using too many labels and/or medicalizing my client, and because I look at people as not just individuals but as embedded in various life environments, I teach my clients to understand themselves in those contexts as well as how they can better navigate their thoughts and behaviors within the various parts of their lives with greater emotional and behavioral success. Having worked closely with psychiatrists and various prescribers (nurse practitioners, physician assistants, CRNP's, etc.) over the years, I've gained extensive knowledge on how to direct clients regarding who to see/where to go regarding medical concerns and medication issues. It is important, for example, to rule out at certain times, particular medical issues which may be causing mental health symptoms.

My philosophy of care is to provide the best possible care to clients in a safe environment. I will provide a therapeutic environment and begin to build a therapist relationship with the client in order to assist them with their issues and develop the necessary skills needed to work on their mental health issues to provide them with a more stable and balanced mentality. In a therapeutic relationship, the client’s needs are the main focus and the client’s therapy is centered around their personal goals. The client should feel comfortable with their therapist and be able to trust them enough to begin building a rapport with them. This will help with the client being able to open up to the therapist and let the healing begin. Therapy  is a formal relationship between you and your therapist that helps you grow, y and heal. As a therapist, I want to assist my clients to explore some effective ways to deal with the issues that brought them to therapy and begin to make better decisions in their lives  and help them overcome the issues instead of maintaining those unhealthy relationships and issues and continuing with the maladaptive behaviors.  As a therapist, it is my job to teach the client a higher level of functioning, healing and master new healthier skills. It is also my job to help the client to learn about themselves, come up with what is important and what is not important. My job is also to take that client towards increased satisfaction in life and contentment. In the end, I want the client to get that Ah ha moment that lets them know that they can control their mental illness and not be judged because they have a mental illness.

Greetings! I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) based in Florida and the owner/CEO of Breaking BHAD Counseling, LLC. These are all the providers we have at this time based on your selections. We're constantly adding new providers to our site. Try adjusting your filters to see available providers.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Maryland rather than a city like Baltimore?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Maryland from Hagerstown to Ocean City! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Maryland.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on LGBTQ?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, LGBTQ, is filtering therapists in Maryland that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
