Most of my work is Brief Emotional Therapy; 4-7 sessions, although I do have clients that have been with me longer. I work primarily with anxiety and depression. I try to help people get through whatever issues they may be experiencing without judgement or attitude; to try and make some sense of the past, present and uncertain future. I work with you to differentiate or separate Depression, which may be rooted in the past from Anxiety, generally rooted in the present and with knowledge of an uncertain future. With respect to the gravity of the pain of the past, when we break depression and anxiety apart, we may choose to focus on what we can still affect, in the here and now and with the acceptance of an uncertain future. We can learn how to moderate and tolerate the added anxiety that comes with staying present and understanding of an uncertain future. But unless you are a time traveler and I don't generally work with time travelers, you can't affect the past. Thank you, Dr. L

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

...just to hear what's going on and see if I can help facilitate your journey through whatever you may be experiencing.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am an older individual who has enjoyed other careers before becoming a Psychologist. I have lived in both urban and rural parts of the country and bring a strength of experience combined with a lack of judgment or attitude regarding my client's racial, ethnic, social or economic stature. Every person I work with is a unique individual worthy of respect and caring.

My treatment methods

Supportive

Most of my work is Brief Emotional Therapy 4-7 sessions although I do have folks that have been with me for years. I meet you where you are without judgement or attitude. I'm the little angel/devil on your shoulder facilitating change, acceptance, dealing with anxiety and depression and uncertainty, etc.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps people understand how thoughts affect emotions and behaviors. we question our pwespectives and soemtines re-frame negative narratives for more global or positive possibilities

Mindfulness-Based Therapy

a modified form of cognitive therapy that incorporates mindfulness practices that include present moment awareness, meditation, and breathing exercises. Simply said, it is hard to be in 2 places at once; remaining present is one place; anxiety and depression are another.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

This form of psychotherapy is grounded in the idea that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological functioning... that by using the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard, the client would feel safe enough to access their own potential. The client would be able to move towards self-actualisation, to be able to find the answers in themselves.
