Welcome! I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and have been practicing as a psychotherapist since 2018. I work with individuals of all genders and backgrounds from adolescence through late adulthood and I love what I do. I have strong clinical skills treating anxiety, trauma, struggles with anger/violence, and difficulties in relationships and communication. I also am adept at treating depression and substance use. I have solid experience with LGBTQIAA+ folks and enjoy working with this community. I have been a foster parent since 2016 and have depth of understanding of how children and adults are affected when a child does not live with their birth parents.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In the first session, we will spend a few minutes covering formalities regarding safety of the therapy process and confidentiality. Then I will ask you what you are wanting help with, I will offer listening, compassion, and care, and I will answer any questions you have. I am interested in what you need, how I can tailor the therapy so it feels most supportive to you, and to foster connection in the therapeutic process.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My work as a psychologist is a calling that integrates my strengths and my favorite parts of myself. I love listening to people's stories, I love connecting in relationships, and I have naturally deep sensitivity, kindness, and care. I am good at navigating when to respond with emotional depth and when to shift into more intellectual processing. I think my clients keep coming back because they feel like I see them clearly, understand, accept, and support them. I also do my own emotional development work and I think this is vital to my ability to provide quality care.

My treatment methods

Relational

Having a positive relationship with your therapist can be a powerful basis upon which to improve your relationship with yourself and others. A primary focus in my approach to therapy is to develop a relationship with my clients that supports their needs.

Trauma Informed Care

I wrote my doctoral dissertation on Complex Trauma, I have worked with many clients who experience PTSD and other forms of post traumatic stress, and I have solid understand of how trauma occurs, and how to work through it.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

All human experiences have a cognitive component, as the process of experiencing and conscious awareness occur in the brain. Therefore, I find cognitive therapy to often be useful in reducing suffering or increasing positive experiences. Most people in therapy also have some concern about behavior and this can be an important focus in therapy.

Mind-body approach

My therapy practice includes a strong emphasis on feelings and all feelings have a physical component. It can be important and useful to increase understanding of the relationship between mental and physical experiences. I trained for 5 years in a clinic specializing in somatic (physical body) therapy and learned the human body is an endless source of useful information.

Psychodynamic

The root "psycho" means soul or mind. Most people experience many different (dynamic) parts of self and often our internal parts can be in disagreement. For example, being a parent can be deeply moving and emotionally rewarding, and it can also be terribly painful and scary. So part of the self can love parenting while part of the self may want to escape all the pressure. Psychodynamic therapy helps examine different parts of self and work toward internal resolution. My graduate education was steeped in psychodynamic principles and this is a strong foundation of my approach to psychotherapy.
