Other areas of focus that I can help you with include relationship issues, anger, stress-management, physical and learning disabilities including ADD/ADHD, life-stage issues and self-esteem. My professional career began as a certified American Sign Language Interpreter in 2001 and quickly progressed into earning a Graduate degree in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. My training provided the experience needed to work in a community mental health clinic providing high quality mental health care to residents in Austin, TX for 6 years. My interests in whole health led me to San Antonio to work with chronic illness, transplant, and geriatric care for roughly 10 years. Along this journey, I have had the opportunity to work with multinational clients seeking refugee services, worked as the Associate Director for Student Accessibility Services at a private university and currently involved in a fulfilling career as a counselor to veterans of our Armed Forces. I enjoy staying busy. On my time off, I thoroughly enjoy spending time with my friends and family, always searching for my next adventure.

You wake up worried about the day ahead before you even get out of bed. At work, you're scared of making mistakes, it feels like everyone's waiting for you to mess up. When friends invite you out, you say “yes” but inside, you're nervous about going. At home, instead of relaxing, you keep thinking about awkward things you said or did, wondering what kind of impression you left on everyone. It feels like your brain won't turn off these thoughts that make you feel not good enough, and it's exhausting. These anxious thoughts are undercutting your confidence and affecting both your professional and personal relationships.

Instead, I am a Mexican-American English/Spanish speaking Licensed Professional Counselor practicing since 2017. I was inspired to work in this field due to many hardships growing up. Though difficult to overcome, such significant obstacles ignited my curiosity for understanding the human condition and improving upon it when and where possible, a lifelong pursuit which still guides me personally and professionally.

Hi, my name is Mark. Thank you for considering me as your therapist. It would be my pleasure to get to work with you! I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist; that means that not only do I work with individuals who experience all kinds of mental health challenges, but I also specialize in systemic, or relational therapy - working with couples, families & groups. I am a Presidential Member of the American Association of Christian Counselors. If you want your faith included in your therapy, please let me know; your sessions will be as "spiritual" as you'd like, and no more. I have been providing therapy and counseling since 2016, and most recently worked as the therapy manager for a clinic that has four locations. Though I have worked with all populations (youngest 5 years old and oldest 94), young kids have trouble sitting still in front of a camera. Children under the age of 15 would be better served in an office setting, in my opinion. I have been with my amazing wife for over 35 years now, and have two wonderful adult children. I enjoy sports, music and all kinds of "outdoorzie" stuff. I most of all just enjoy time with my family. Most of my clients profess to sincerely enjoy working with me; I tend to connect with my clients on a deeper level, and in a more meaningful way, than some other therapists. Many say that they or their children work better with me than any other therapist, counselor or doctor they've experienced. I am humbled and immensely grateful for their kind words. I offer my clients a soft place to fall in their hurts and struggles while providing them a firm place to stand in their healing and growth. Always, in a judgment-free way.

"Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in our soul, and sings the tunes without the words, and never stops at all." Emily Dickinson "As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I bring a wealth of therapeutic expertise and an unwavering commitment to supporting individuals and families on their unique journeys. I view counseling as a collaborative, confidential partnership where my primary role is to provide an empathetic and non-judgmental space for exploration and growth. I employ a diverse array of therapy models and strategies, but I also recognize the immense power of simply listening and understanding. Together, we will delve into your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, exploring their impact on both your personal well-being and your relationships with others. My approach is action-oriented and empathetic, geared towards identifying practical solutions for your current challenges, ultimately enhancing your outlook and circumstances. I understand that seeking counseling can be intimidating, and I want to assure you that my focus is not on judgment but on helping you resolve issues and make choices that align with your goals for a more fulfilling life. Welcome my friends. From my heart, I live by the adage that I will be in my own battle or someone else’s battle for the rest of my life. Our days are like the weather. Many days the sun shines, but the rains do come and sometimes a destructive storm hits hard (a divorce, the loss of a loved one, cancer, suicidal thoughts, et cetera). I have been honored to be in the field of psychology for 20 years since 2004. Through the years, more than half of my time was in the Army where I primarily worked with soldiers enduring anxiety, depression, trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, and all the other usual suspects of psychological distress such as guilt, fear, worry, shame, pain, heartbreak, addiction, identity conflicts, and sorrow. I’ve also worked in the prisons for many years with extreme situations (i.e., murder, severe mental illness, rape, child molestation, drug kingpins, gang leaders). I have seen many miracles. So, no matter what your circumstances are, never quit and never give up! I’m a combat veteran and retired Army officer, a devout Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and experienced clinical psychologist. Let’s get into the root causes of your battle and find ways to overcome, change, forgive, accept, and move upward toward the light. The darkness will eventually lift, and the light will surely shine again.

Hello Friend! Everyone at one point or another in life, may experience a host of unbearable stressors, as if weighed down. We may even describe oneself feeling as 'lost in a web of frustration', describe that sense of being as anxious, fatigue, or sadness, whereas our unique threshold has been completely depleted. But did you know feeling anxiousness is normal? Many would not realize, feeling stress is actually a sense of determination to gain back control and the tiredness is just temporary. Anxiousness is innate in all of us. What's not healthy is when the stressors has crossed the threshold to what feels comfortable, before interrupting our daily habits/responsibilities. So, how do we 'fix things' when all we want is solitude? It is said, 'when life throws us lemons, make lemonade'. Simple as finding a helper - therapist. I’ll help you navigate the web of confusion to find YOUR empowerment. My journey began as a young child whose home was a host of struggles/abuse which later became insight into the struggles others experience. I found a well-regarded psychotherapist who helped me learn life-long cognitive tools. Later, I became a psychotherapist, worked in a clinical setting. I garnered a vast amount of knowledge which helped me to specialize in various modalities of treatment. Proper psychotherapists should emphasize there is no such thing as "the magic pill" and most treatments don't require medication. I hold a high standard for clients' rights as a mental health advocate with a high standard for myself. I serve all slices of society including those dealing with depression, grief, anxiety, relationship issues, past trauma, adjustment, chronic health and other issues. Together, we can identify what's not working for you. We will find solutions you innately use and form goals that do NOT require much change in your life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas with three years of independent clinical experience and over ten years of experience in human services, case management, vocational rehabilitation services, and working at inpatient and outpatient clinical therapy offices. I have a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University, a masters degree in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health counseling from UNC-Chapel Hill, and a bachelors of science degree in psychology from North Carolina State University. I chose to get a PhD in counseling because of my desire to help others, and my continuous drive to learn and grow. Therapy was essential to me as a teenager, then as a young adult, and now as a middle-aged adult. I have always found it to be a powerful tool in allowing me to process my thoughts and feelings, both about my past and my future. As a result, I chose to become a therapist, to provide the same support and guidance to the people I work with!

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Bipolar Disorder?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Bipolar Disorder, is filtering therapists in Texas that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
