I am a clinical social worker, combat veteran and spouse of a service member and first responder. I am based in Texas and have 8 years of experience working with those struggling with severe mental illness and navigating the criminal justice system. I assist individuals with deeply exploring their struggles and what may be contributing to these challenges. Through exploration and hard work, we can take back control over our lives and live more authentically and peacefully. An area I have been recently exploring is working with individuals looking to improve their fitness journey, sports performance and general health and wellness.
Initially I will learn more about you and what has led you to seek therapy. We will discuss your specific challenges and use these challenges and motivations to inform our plan and develop realistic goals.
I have many years working with severe mental illness, which has taught me to be creative, think outside of the box and have patience. I am trained in methods that will allow us to navigate traumatic experiences, body tension, self-esteem and tactics that improve relationships.
I acknowledge that trauma impacts our relationships, reaction styles, attachments and that we carry our trauma with us. We will work to manage how we respond to our perceived threats which will improve our quality of life and relationships.
I focus on your innate strengths and build upon them. Your strengths have helped you get this far... they have helped you survive, and we need to honor them.
We can learn about your childhood experiences and how they impact the way you attach in relationships. Often times our attachment style has a huge impact on our relationships with our partners and children. By working through and finding healthier ways to attach, naturally our relationships improve.
Our bodies hold a lot of tension and carry our traumas. We will learn how to listen to our bodies and to use the body to relieve feelings of tension and stress.
We will focus on the things we can control, the present moment and how focusing on the present moment, positively impacts our future and reduces anxiety about the past and future.
