Though I was born in the USA, my early years were spent overseas. As a child I was deeply affected by the contrast between natural beauty and all the poverty and depravity around me. I could not reconcile the violence and injustice I witnessed. As I grew up and began traveling around the world, I realized that so many of these people had indeed figured out ways to cope with war, violence, abuse, and injustice. I admired their resiliency. How did they do it? RESILIENCY in RELATIONSHIPS! That was the key!! With much research, studying, prayer and face to face experience, I realized RESILIENCY in RELATIONSHIPS was LEARNED! I always thought it was something you either had or didn’t have from childhood. I was stunned to learn that failure and strife actually cultivates RESILIENCY! But there are skills to learn to make it happen, skills such as self-awareness, ability to pay attention to the world around us and our own bodies (mindfulness), learning to grieve and let go while embracing change, learning how to have healthy relationships with others and with ourselves, and accessing positive emotions while focusing on the beauty in life. I'd love to walk with you through this process to restore hope.

Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the great state of Texas. I am happy you are reaching out for help into this journey of bringing out the best in yourself and I am here for you! I will provide therapy services to all clients in all locations within the state of Texas. If you feel stuck because of life's experiences causing anxiety, stress, or trauma, I can help. I have always had a heart for helping people and did so throughout my career in the military and then later when I started my counseling journey in 2010 and then received my master’s from Liberty University. Counseling is a ministry that I have a passion for helping people of all ages navigate and overcome a variety of life's challenges. Good mental health positively affects our physical health. It is important for all to have the opportunity to receive mental health services. If a client qualifies, I accept sliding scale. I have been attentive to the needs of both at risk residential and outpatient children, adults, and families, while ensuring a welcoming, trusting, no-judgement environment. I also work to effect positive change using methods or tools empowering Individuals (both adults and youth) and families experiencing unexpected life's trials.

First and foremost, I am a Christian. While my faith in God is very strong, I work within the parameters established by my clients. If they do not believe, and do not request faith-based services, this will never come up in our work together, but I hope to treat you with all the compassion that Jesus would. That was the greatest compliment I ever had from a Lesbian client, that for the first time in her life, she felt treated as Jesus would have treated her. I am a trauma survivor myself. I know the difficult road back from childhood and adult traumatic events first-hand, not just from the textbooks. I dedicated my life and 35-year career running a nonprofit serving survivors of trauma--child abuse victims, veterans, domestic violence, sexual trauma, surviving family members of homicide victims, and terroristic attacks. It is unconscionable what human beings will do to one another, and it can perpetuate for generations if you neglect your own recovery. I am also a mediator and have had the honor of reconciling many marriages--some who even came to me for divorce and custody originally, wanting to save their marriage but not knowing what else to try. I've seen healing in many generational disputes, and in interventions with families trying to get an addicted or severely mentally ill member to treatment. I do Workplace Mediation and Eldercare and Guardianship Mediation as well. Have differences in parenting? Parenting and Discipline Planning are accomplished expeditiously in mediation. Want the perfect wedding gift? Give them Pre-marital or Re-marital Mediation so they can discuss and agree on life choices together before they get married and start arguing endlessly about them.

Charmaine Pigue is a licensed social worker who has been working in the field of social work for the past 19 years. She brings with her a wealth of experience in working with adults, children, and families. Charmaine helps clients deal with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and other mental health disorders. I am a military spouse who spent years moving to different places with my military husband who is now retired. What drew me to focus on treating clients with mental health issues is that I have always wanted to help people. I immigrated from Jamaica, WI with my family when I was a young girl. Being an immigrant in New York helped me see how helping the community was needed. I started by volunteering as a candy striper in a hospital. After obtaining my bachelor's degree in psychology, I worked in state and county agencies that assisted clients with mental health needs. Having worked with psychologists, nurses, and case managers, I felt I could do more. I decided to get my master's degree. This allowed me to help change lives by providing counseling for people who needed face-to-face, hands-on assistance. Ultimately, I was ready to fully focus on providing clinical psychotherapy to my clients and obtained my clinical license.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, I join in collaboration and congruency with my clients demonstrating warmth, empathy, and genuineness--fundamental to the development of a therapeutic relationship. CBT is designed to bring in balance with use of tools and resources based on functioning of the person. My personal philosophy of life for counseling is that 'serene tranquility' coupled with 'bringing in balance' is cornerstone to the rejuvenation of Hope. It is the road to recovery; for restoration of faith from doubt/grief/loss; for personal growth and development; for understanding self and functioning in relationships with others; and, with building self-confidence and -esteem geared towards recognizing inherent characteristic qualities of life: worth, value, and validation. CBT helps with understanding the functional roles of all emotions, both positive and negative, and their impact on behavioral responses. I believe that you are the expert and pilot of your own life; and, am here to assist you with navigating your life journey by providing a safe and caring space free of judgment as your life co-pilot. My approach is one of warmth, that is proven Results-Oriented.

My passion is to help men & women who are losing sleep and suffering in silence from anxiety, depression, grief, fear, and past traumatic events. There are things that we’ve pushed down, ignored, or dismissed for years that finally need to be dealt with and let go. You can finally get the break-through and break-free to become the person you’ve always known you could become.

What if you could write the story of your life? The truth is, you can, you are in control of your destiny, you are writing the story of your life right now. The choices you make are directly related to the thoughts you have. That puts you in control, you have the ability to change the way you think, and when you change the way you think, you change your life. The thoughts you are thinking right now are writing the story of your life. If you are not happy with the story, you can reprogram your thoughts to change the story and write it the way you want it to go. Together you and I can work to manage the challenges you are facing today. Therapy may seem scary or even overwhelming, but with the right partner you really can change your life. Together we will explore how your thoughts and the dimensions of wellness are affecting your life and find a path to change the story of your life, to one of positive emotional and mental well-being.

Hello! Reaching out to begin this process can be a daunting task. So, I’m glad you’re here. Most enter into therapy feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, and/or not good enough. It is painful and frustrating to not feel in control of your emotions. Negative thoughts make it hard to feel good about yourself, your relationships, and your outlook on life. Imagine what you would be doing instead if you could truly heal and manage your emotions more effectively. We will work together to rewrite the narratives read by your internal voice and reframe your thinking. Together, we will develop tools and resources that are needed to strengthen your mindset daily, allowing you to increase overall confidence and trust in yourself.

Frequently asked questions

Why filter by Texas rather than a city like Dallas?

When looking for online therapy, you can see anyone that is credentialed in the state. We want you to find the best fit, therefore, Grow Therapy shows available therapists across Texas from Houston to Austin! If you’d rather see someone in-person, you can change the filter from virtual and find a therapist near you in Texas.

Will my therapist take insurance?

When booking you’ll be asked to verify with your Member ID. However, if you don’t have any of the insurances available you can select cash. Our therapists will have their cost of appointment on their profile. Individual session costs will vary.

How does the Specialty Filter work? Can I find a therapist that focuses on Veterans?

The specialty filter is optional. You don’t need to check any boxes to see a provider. However, fit is very important when selecting an online therapist. If you have knowledge or experience to recognize what specialties you may need. For example, your selected specialty, Veterans, is filtering therapists in Texas that work with patients with similar concerns.

Why use Gender, Age, and Identities filters?

Finding a provider with a similar life experience can be beneficial because it can be easier to establish rapport and potentially be understood quicker and clearer.

What to expect during your first session?

Your first therapy session is for you and your therapist to meet each other and to ask any questions that you have about the counseling process. This is where you can expect your therapist to do the same as they will ask questions to gain insight into your specific situation. In this first session the therapist is doing their part to gather as much information so they can better assess if they are able to meet your therapeutic needs.

Depending upon your provider's specialty, you may also discuss the methods the therapist will use. For additional information on therapy methods, please visit the Grow Therapy Help Center. Some people feel nervous before their first appointment, and that is totally normal! Coming prepared with a list of questions for your therapist may help. Remember, you're taking a brave step by seeking therapy, and it is okay to be nervous as you try something new.
