Greg Bisset
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Delaware, and I’m committed to creating a supportive, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout your therapeutic journey. I hold several specialized credentials, including Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor, Certified Mental Health Screener, Certified First Responder Counselor through Academy Hour, and Emergency Responder and Public Safety Certified Clinician through Lexipol Wellness. My educational background includes a Doctor of Social Work (DSW), earned in 2024; a Master of Social Work (MSW), earned in 2018; a Post-Bachelor Certificate in Trauma-Informed Approaches, completed in 2019; and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Psychology, earned in 2016. Before beginning my academic journey, I proudly served four years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. My military experience and professional background have shaped my appreciation for resilience, personal growth, and the unique experiences that influence who we are. Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals navigating a variety of life challenges, including substance use, homelessness, serious mental health concerns, anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, and other difficult experiences. My therapeutic approach is grounded in the person-in-environment perspective, which recognizes that our mental health and well-being are influenced by our relationships, life experiences, environments, and the challenges we face. Rather than focusing solely on the problems bringing you to therapy, I strive to understand the bigger picture of your life and what matters most to you. My goal is for you to feel safe, respected, and supported as we navigate this journey together. Whether you are seeking support through a difficult season, working toward recovery, processing past experiences, or simply hoping to better understand yourself, you do not have to navigate it alone.
First session
Our intake session will consist of the intake process. I want to know what brings you and the areas you feel are concerns or problematic. I will share what sessions with me are like, my views and values and see if this I am a match for you. Our first session, we dive deep into areas of concern. I focus on the whole health, as each person will have many unique factors that impact them. I focus on building a relationship of trust and honesty, where I get to you know you but subsequently work together build trust.
Strengths
I believe that feeling comfortable, accepted, and understood is an important part of the therapeutic process. I strive to create a space where you can show up as your authentic self without feeling the need to filter your emotions or worry about being judged. I encourage you to express yourself in whatever way feels most natural to you, including using profanity if that is how you best communicate your thoughts, feelings, or experiences. What matters most to me is that you feel comfortable being honest and expressing yourself in a way that feels true to you. **These sessions are yours.** My role is not to tell you how you should feel or who you should be, but to meet you where you are, listen to your experiences, and work alongside you as you navigate life's challenges. I prioritize building a trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel supported, respected, and empowered to work toward your goals. I believe you already possess strengths that can help you move forward, even when those strengths may be difficult to recognize in challenging moments. Together, we can identify and build upon those strengths, explore what may be holding you back, and develop strategies that align with your needs and the changes you want to make. My goal is for you to leave our sessions feeling heard, supported, and better equipped to navigate your journey, knowing that you do not have to have everything figured out to begin making progress.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and supporting them through a wide range of life experiences and challenges. Much of my clinical work focuses on helping individuals navigate trauma, depression, anxiety, and substance use concerns. I recognize that each person’s experiences are unique, and I strive to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their concerns and working toward meaningful change. As a Certified First Responder Counselor (C-FRC), I have a particular interest in supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of individuals who serve in high-stress, demanding, and service-oriented professions. This includes nurses, paramedics, law enforcement officers, firefighters, social workers, correctional officers, dispatchers, and other members of the first responder and public safety communities. I understand that consistently showing up for others, managing high-pressure situations, and navigating difficult or traumatic experiences can take an emotional toll. Those who spend their careers caring for, protecting, and supporting others deserve a space where they can focus on their own well-being, too. My goal is to provide a safe, confidential, and supportive therapeutic environment where you can speak openly about your experiences, process difficult emotions, and develop practical strategies to manage stress and improve your overall well-being. Whether you are navigating the demands of your profession, coping with personal challenges, or working through experiences that have stayed with you long after the moment has passed, I am committed to meeting you where you are and working alongside you toward your goals.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
I often incorporate Motivational Interviewing into my work with clients. I recognize that, at times, you may already know what you want to change or what you believe would be best for you, but taking that first step can feel overwhelming or difficult. Knowing what you want and feeling ready or motivated to act on it are not always the same thing. My role is to help you explore your own motivations, recognize your strengths, work through uncertainty, and identify what may be getting in the way of moving forward. Rather than telling you what you should do, I work alongside you to help you identify your reasons for change and build confidence in your ability to take meaningful steps toward your goals. I believe that change is most meaningful when it comes from within. Our sessions provide an opportunity to explore where you are, where you want to be, and what steps feel realistic for you. You do not have to have all the answers or be ready to make every change right away. We can work together to identify a starting point, build momentum, and move at a pace that feels manageable and right for you.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I often incorporate **mindfulness-based interventions** into treatment because I believe they can be valuable tools for grounding ourselves, finding balance, and reconnecting with the present moment. When life feels overwhelming, our thoughts may become focused on the past, worries about the future, or the stressors we are experiencing. Mindfulness can help us slow down, become more aware of what is happening within and around us, and approach those experiences with greater intention. Together, we can explore mindfulness techniques that work for you, whether that involves breathing exercises, grounding strategies, or simply learning to pause and acknowledge what you are feeling without judgment. These tools can help you develop a greater awareness of your thoughts and emotions, manage stress, and navigate difficult moments with a renewed sense of control. Mindfulness is not about stopping your thoughts or making difficult feelings disappear.** It is about learning to meet yourself where you are, recognize what you are experiencing, and gently bring your attention back to the present. My goal is to help you discover practical strategies you can incorporate into your daily life to support your emotional well-being and personal growth.
Positive Psychology
I believe that recognizing and building upon your strengths is an important part of the therapeutic process. We often become so focused on our challenges, setbacks, or the things we wish we could change that we lose sight of the strengths and abilities we already possess. I work with you to identify those strengths and explore how they can support positive changes in your thoughts, behaviors, and daily life. Together, we can build on what is already working for you, develop healthier ways of thinking, and strengthen the skills that help you navigate life's challenges. My approach is not about focusing solely on what needs to change, but also recognizing what you are already doing well and how those abilities can help you move forward. You are more than the challenges you face. By identifying your strengths and learning how to use them intentionally, we can work toward building confidence, encouraging personal growth, and creating meaningful, lasting changes that align with your goals.
Trauma-Informed Care
I am committed to supporting individuals who have experienced trauma and helping them navigate their healing and recovery at a pace that feels comfortable for them. I recognize that traumatic experiences can affect how we think, feel, relate to others, and navigate the world around us. Each person's experience is unique, and I believe that healing begins with feeling safe, heard, and understood. My approach emphasizes creating a supportive, compassionate, and trauma-informed therapeutic environment where you can explore your experiences without fear of judgment or pressure to share more than you feel ready to discuss. I strive to meet you where you are, respect your boundaries, and recognize the strengths and resilience you bring to the healing process. Together, we can work toward understanding how past experiences may be affecting your present, developing tools to manage difficult emotions and stress responses, and building a greater sense of safety and control in your life. Your healing journey is your own, and you deserve the time, space, and support to navigate it in a way that feels right for you. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you identify your strengths and develop strategies that support your recovery, growth, and overall well-being.
