I have a master's degree in social work with more than 19 years' experience in the treatment of mental health and substance use disorders. I am very laid back and oftentimes utilize humor to develop rapport. I focus on mindfulness techniques to assist with living in the present moment.
First session
I want every client to feel comfortable and open. I will not push any issues until you are ready to talk about it. I want the client to feel heard and understand that they are in the driver's seat.
Strengths
I am a very active and empathetic listener. I never tell clients what to do or what not to do but rather assist with you considering pros and cons and arriving at your own decisions. My goal is to help you recognize and utilize your own strengths, while also teaching coping mechanisms to address life on life's terms.
Ideal clients
Every client is different and I treat them as such. I've addressed a multitude of issues including depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship difficulties, etc. I've also encountered clients with strong motivation to change as well as those that are still possibly on the fence. My personal approach is always to meet the client wherever they are and attempt to foster change talk.
