Hi! I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor, and have been providing counseling to children, adolescents, adults, and families for 15 years in NC. I received my Master's in Community Counseling at Lenoir-Rhyne University. I enjoy helping individuals learn from their past while focusing on building a present and future that is fulfilling. Past clients have noted that I made them feel heard while still challenging them to grow. I believe counseling is a very active process and requires a team effort. I like for us to set goals, so we know where we are going and when we get there.
In our first session we will introduce ourselves and discuss what you can expect from the counseling process. I like to start by getting a brief medical and mental health history about you and your family. I think it is important to understand where you are coming from and to work towards getting a picture of you as a whole person. I like to end by discussing what your goals are for therapy and what you are hoping to gain from the experience.
Having spent the last 12 years working with young adults, I think I have developed a balance of softness, directness, and humor that creates a supportive but challenging environment. I can offer flexibility when needed but also help you focus on the goals that brought you to counseling if you get off track. Clients in the past have stated that I do not let them 'get away' from dealing with the hard things. I am going to encourage you to grow, but you will know it is coming from a place of care and respect.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have been utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) since the start of my career and have continued receiving education on this method as a professional. CBT is an evidence-based therapeutic approach that has been shown to be effective in treating many mental health issues. I utilize CBT to help clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. We explore how beliefs we have about ourselves may have developed in childhood and have been carried on and are still impacting us as adults.
Existential
I was drawn to Existentialism as a graduate student. Existentialism focuses on the meaning of one’s life and I believe that many of our struggles develop when we lose sight of that meaning. I love exploring what brings people meaning in their day-to-day life and how they can create a life they find meaningful. A meaningful life can vary from person to person and figuring that out for each person is important.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT encourages individuals to accept their thoughts and feelings as they are without trying to ignore and/or control them. ACT utilizes mindfulness skills and focuses on living a valued life. I think this can pair well with Existentialism and can assist those who struggle with CBT.
Integrative
After years providing counseling, I recognize that not one approach works for every client, so I take an Integrative approach to treatment. Integrative therapy combines different therapeutic approaches into a cohesive framework tailored to the individual client's needs.
