(she/her)
Hi and welcome, My name is Mary and I'm a Licensed Social Worker providing virtual psychotherapy services in DC and VA. I'm dedicated to assisting in your journey to find support and encouragement to process life’s challenges. I commend you for your willingness to seek available resources and welcome the opportunity to work together. During my career, I've had the pleasure of working with individuals and caregivers who have experienced life-changing events as well as daily hardships that include higher levels of anxiety and depression. These experiences have helped me realize that we all can grow, expand our resilience and obtain our goals. With the guidance of a qualified therapist, this process may be a bit smoother.
During our initial session, I'll give a general overview of our appointment which will include reviewing your intake form, anxiety and depression questionnaires in greater detail so that you may share more about yourself and your experience. We'll establish therapy goals that you'd like to focus on during our sessions and schedule follow-up appointments. During subsequent meetings, we can focus on impactful events of your current week, anticipated events of following week, discuss your therapeutic goals or a combination of the above (whatever you feel will be the most beneficial use of our time together). We'll also identify a home practice/set an intention every week that will serve as a mini-goal towards your larger goals, and, we'll routinely check in on how your progress.
My biggest strengths include treating each client as the expert in their own life and creating a plan to support you in attaining your therapy goals. I strive to create an environment in which you feel validated and may freely express yourself; working in this collaborative approach allows us to identify the best plan to lower symptoms and meet your goals.
Individuals and family members that have experienced major medical events or present with significant medical histories. I also work with individuals who experience higher rates of anxiety and/or depression that are seeking resources to manage these symptoms as well as those seeking support to process impactful events of daily life. During our appointments, we are able to identify opportunities to lower symptoms and work towards therapy goals.

Strength-Based
I utilize this positive psychology approach to identify (and highlight) your personal strengths, which may have been helpful during difficult times in the past and may be useful in lowering symptoms of anxiety/depression and reaching your goals.
Motivational Interviewing
This technique is useful in discovering your personal motivation for change and contributes to our collaborative work together.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Utilizing this approach assists with becoming more aware of thoughts in the present moment, moving away from automatic pilot and choosing how to proceed in the decision-making process. Mindfulness allows us to direct our focus to the present moment and symptoms which contributes to our ability to break tasks down into manageable steps and view thoughts in a different light.
