About me

I tell everyone that I am not your average therapist, meaning I have a different outlook and approach than many therapists/counselors. I have extensive experience working with complex populations and mental health conditions, including but not limited to complex trauma, psychosis, personality disorders, and substance use. I am typically direct, as I believe time is the most valuable resource we have, and I want to respect your time. I have a more sarcastic, darker humor and try to make therapy more fun and inviting. After all, no one seeks therapy when their lives are wonderful and everything is in order. Talking to new people is always hard, so I try to make things easier.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

First sessions always feel a little awkward. I try to minimize that negative feeling as much as possible for you and provide a safe and welcoming space. I encourage everyone to share whatever they want and are comfortable sharing in their own time, which may take a few sessions. We are all human trying to be human, and I try to make sure every session ends with people feeling better than when the session starts.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Having a direct approach means we tackle things head-on and try to understand and resolve them. If something is too much in a session, we put a pin in it and come back to it when you're ready. I challenge and encourage everyone, including myself, to push past the discomfort, think outside the box, and learn something new every day. I also rely heavily on science and neurobiology to understand how things work and why we do what we do. One of the most effective and possibly irritating questions I ask in a session is "why," which helps understand the thought and behavior in the long run.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with adults in all stages of their lifespan in an individual 1:1 virtual setting. Goals for therapy can be specific or broad, and even some undefined ideas of goals. Clients who are internally motivated for change often do the best in therapy, and having an open mind is paramount. There is no one-size-fits-all to treatment and growth, nor is there a business model. It's okay to figure things out as we go!

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Understanding why we think what we do, how those thoughts impact our emotions, and what actions we take because of that background is the foundation to our growth.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT helps to understand and adjust one's behavior to facilitate healthier outcomes.

Trauma-Focused CBT

Understanding the complexity and automatic nature of trauma responses allows better control of our behavior.

Grief Therapy

Grief is complicated and is harder to work out on our own.

Psychoeducation

Understanding how our minds work the way they do can help make sense of our choices and behaviors.
