New to Grow
Hi, I’m Dr. Cathy Evangelatos, I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and growth. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology. I also hold a Master’s degree in Theology, enabling me to offer specialized Christian-integrated therapy for clients who desire to integrate their faith into their personal growth and healing. I hold a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, which provides significantly more rigorous training and expertise than a standard two-year Master’s-level therapist. Psychologists typically complete 5–7+ years of doctoral-level education beyond a bachelor’s degree, with extensive training in evidence-based psychological interventions, assessment, diagnosis, and advanced treatment approaches. In contrast, most Master’s-level therapists (such as MFTs or LCSWs) complete a two-year graduate program focused primarily on relational and family systems work. This advanced doctoral training allows me to deliver deeper, more nuanced, and highly effective care — empowering you to achieve meaningful, lasting change with greater insight, precision, and support than a standard Master’s-level therapist can typically provide.
In our first session, you can expect a warm, supportive space where I'll focus on getting to know you. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, gather some background information, explain confidentiality and how therapy works with you, and begin exploring you goals. The session is collaborative and low-pressure — you don’t need to share everything at once. Most clients leave feeling heard, with a clearer idea of the process and next steps.
In addition to my doctoral training and clinical expertise as a psychologist, I bring extensive real-life experience in addition to raising my own family. This combination of years of personal parenting experience and professional clinical practice gives me a uniquely grounded perspective when working with individuals in navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, and parenting concerns. I gained valuable experience during my doctoral training at the Los Angeles Mission –Anne Douglas Center for Women and at Los Angeles Christian Health Centers on Skid Row. Working in these diverse settings strengthened my ability to provide culturally responsive and affirming care across a wide range of backgrounds.
I am particularly well-equipped to support clients who are 25–50 years old and seeking in-depth, insightful talk therapy. This includes individuals working through: Relationship challenges (dating, marital, or family-of-origin issues) Depression, anxiety, and trauma Grief, life transitions, or divorce recovery Perinatal and maternal mental health Women’s identity, empowerment, and life transitions I am especially well-suited for Christians who want to thoughtfully integrate their faith into the therapeutic process, as well as those experiencing spiritual struggles or faith-related wounds. Whether you are looking for purely clinical support or faith-integrated therapy, I tailor my approach to your goals and preferences.

Psychodynamic
I specialize in psychodynamic psychotherapy, a depth-oriented form of therapy. My primary approach is psychodynamic psychotherapy practiced from a biopsychosocial perspective. Together, we explore the connections between your past and present — including processing past trauma and recurring relationship patterns. I also have specialized training in dream analysis which can be incorporate when it feels meaningful to you.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is , goal-oriented psychotherapy that treats mental and physical conditions by helping client identify and change unhelpful thinking and behavioral patterns. It operates on the principle that our thoughts, emotions, and actions are deeply connected. For example: Identifying Cognitive Distortions: I will help you recognize negative thought patterns—such as "catastrophizing" (assuming the worst) or overgeneralizing—that drive emotional suffering. Challenging and Restructuring Thoughts: I help clients learn to evaluate the evidence for their negative beliefs and replace them with more realistic, balanced perspectives.
Attachment-based
I will assesses how the client relates to others by exploring their childhood history and current relationship habits and how these attachment styles can effect current relationship dynamics.
