First session
Our first session together will be a chance for you to tell me who you are, what you are struggling with and what you would like to get out of therapy. I will then share with you ideas on how we can approach your struggles and reach your goals. This will be collaborative, and an opportunity to ask questions, share what styles of therapy work for you and create a path forward.
Strengths
While my clients come from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life, what they often have in common is a sense they are not enough or not doing enough. I have worked with dozens of clients over the last 13 years to successfully reduce their anxiety, perfectionism, and shame. Allowing them to approach life with confidence, experience the joy in the everyday and celebrate wins both small and large. My strength is my humor, lack of judgement, and commitment to self-acceptance & joy. I tend to use a more directive approach, helping to guide you toward your goals & feel better, as soon as possible. Once you are on stable ground, we can work toward creating a life and relationships that are both enjoyable and fulfilling.
Ideal clients
I work with adults, teens and couples. Specializing in sex therapy, relationship challenges and anxiety treatment. My individual clients often struggle with anxiety, self-doubt and a general feelingly that they are not spending their days in ways that bring joy. If your goals are to feel more peaceful, enjoy the moment, improve relationships and create a life that is more inline with your genuine self, we may be a good fit. I work to help you explore who you are, what you need and make solid changes to create a life that is enjoyable and not just a To-Do list. We also work to build confidence & clarify a path during times of confusion and transition. Additionally, many of my clients have found that they constantly think about problems and obligations. If this is the case, we can work together to shift focus to celebrating the great person you likely already are and the great things you are doing, so you can feel excited and good while working toward your goals. The couples I work with often are struggling with communication and stressful conflicts, or stress trying to balance life. Others need support while transitioning to living together, moving, having children, recovering from affairs or other difficult life events. I also specialize in sex and intimacy challenges and help couples not in crisis deepen their connection.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a popular method known for it's effectiveness. Prioritizing reducing negative thinking patterns, anxiety & depression, while building confidence & setting a foundation to make changes with insight and positive energy. We then delve deeper if needed, gaining control of how we let our past impact us.
Narrative
Narrative Therapy can help you understand how your past experiences, trauma’s, society and the people in your life have shaped your beliefs. Once you have an understanding of how these experiences have shaped your self image, what you value and how you interact with other people, you have the power to decide what to keep and what no longer fits. This process can boost self-esteem and can help clarify a life path that you genuinely enjoy.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, is an evidence-based practice known for its lasting effects. During therapy we work to reduce conflict by identifying the cycles of those same old fights and the fallout after. We then learn each other’s underlying needs & attachment styles, allowing you both to show-up & show love in a new way. When we know the deeper reasons why our partner act’s the way they do, it can allow us the compassion & humor needed to accept them for who they are, while providing motivation to make positive changes.
